Three Railroad Cars Derail Near Alliance Laundry Systems
13 November 2018 News
Update:
Ripon Area Fire District Chief Tim Saul says the fertilizer in a railroad car that derailed in Ripon late Monday morning posed a threat, but not a big one to residents. The car was one of five from a Wisconsin and Southern train that derailed between buildings owned by Alliance Laundry Systems. Saul says three of the cars were in severe shape and only one carried a substance that could cause minor respiratory distress. He notes the fertilizer in that car would not normally be a threat unless the car happened to catch on fire. “The only threat to this would be if it caught on fire. It is not combustible, but it will burn and it will enhance a fire and if that happened then we are talking about doing a half mile evacuation.” The derailment did cause some production at Alliance to be moved to another section of the facility. Railroad track buckled causing the derailment about 11:30 Monday morning. No injuries were reported.

Several railroad cars from a Wisconsin and Southern train derailed on a railroad line near Alliance Laundry Systems in Ripon Monday afternoon. Officials say a buckle in the track caused three cars to derail. Ripon Area Fire District officials says two of the cars were carrying non-hazardous materials and a third a substance which can cause minor breathing problems, but it was not leaking. No injuries were reported. The derailment shut down Hall Street for about an hour. It was reopened shortly before 1:30 yesterday afternoon.
