Ripon Common Council Approves 2019 City Budget

14 November 2018 News

The Ripon Common Council last night approved the 2019 City Budget and a tax levy of $2.2 million. That includes a tax rate of $8.21 per thousand dollars of valuation for a property for the City’s portion of property taxes. Before the budget was approved Councilman Douglas Iverson scolded his fellow Council members. Iverson wasn’t able to attend the Council’s last two budget sessions, but said when he watched them he saw Council members take a “Hunger Games” like approach to pitting department heads against each other. He pointed out prior to those meetings the budget was already balanced. He says there was no need for “eye rolling,” “head shaking,” and things could have been more civil. The Council passed the budget by a 6 to 2 vote.
