Eight Area Counties Denied Individual Federal Disaster Insurance
The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s review of the request for individual assistance determined Marquette County is eligible for federal disaster assistance in the wake of storm and flood damage. Adams, Columbia, Dodge, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Jefferson, Ozaukee and Washington counties were denied assistance. Last month Governor Walker requested federal assistance for a number Wisconsin counties. Both public assistance for municipalities and individuals was requested at that time. On October 18th President Trump approved the public assistance portion for 14 counties including Adams, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, and Marquette.
Dodge County Homicide Investigation
Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt says they believe a death on Redwing Road in the Town of Lebanon this past week was the result of a homicide. The death at N901 Redwing Road was reported about 6:15 Halloween night. There was a male victim and a person was taken into custody, but on unrelated charges. Schmidt assures residents there is no threat to them. No names were released during the initial investigation.
In Person Absentee Voting Over
In person absentee voting is over and now the only choice you have if you’re going to vote in the General Election is to go to the polls tomorrow. Fond du Lac County Clerk Lisa Freiberg says if you are not sure your registered or would like to see what what you are voting on you can go to the My Vote website. “But if you don’t get the paper or you just want to look a little bit more closer or whatever certainly go on to that website it will also tell you what you need to bring, which is you are registered all you need to bring and if you are registered all you have to do is bring a picture ID.” If you need to register and you don’t have your current address on your driver’s license you will need to bring proof of residency such as a utility bill, bank statement or other proof.
Busy Weekend For Waupun Fire Department
It was a busy day for the Waupun Fire Department Saturday. During the early part of the day they participated in the “Fill the Tank” food drive at the Fire Station and Piggly Wiggly Store. Fire Chief B.J. DeMaa says it helps stock the Waupun Food Pantry as we go into the holidays. “Any donations that people make whether it is food or money is all donated to the Waupun Food Pantry and helps them out at a busy time of year as we get close to Thanksgiving and Christmas time.” It was the 10th year the department had participated in the food drive and during those first nine years they had collected just under 20 tons of food for the pantry. Later the department delivered Pizza Ranch pizzas for a promotion that gets people to make sure their smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working.
FDL County Highway Garage Groundbreaking Scheduled
Fond du Lac County officials will be holding a groundbreaking ceremony for the new county highway garage in Fond du Lac this week. County staff, County Executive Al Buechel, members of the Highway, Airport and Facilities Committee, Excel Engineering and C.D. Smith Construction will be on site Thursday during the 8:30 am ceremony. At 126,300 square feet the new facility will be nearly twice as large as the original building and the five additions that were added on to it over the years. In addition there will be a cold storage building, two salt storage domes and a sand salt storage shed. The new facility is located on a 40-acre parcel and will include an outdoor shooting range and a secured vehicle impound building for the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office as well as a senior services vehicle garage. The groundbreaking will be at the facility’s site at the intersection of Hickory and Scott Road, 1820 S. Hickory Road in Fond du Lac. The public is welcome to attend.
Transportation Grant Awarded Greater Oshkosh EDC Foundation
The Greater Oshkosh Economic Development Corporation Foundation has been awarded a $30,000 state grant to provide on-demand transportation service for workers throughout Winnebago County. The funds awarded by the state’s Department of Workforce Development will be used to subsidize fares and mileage costs and make the available services affordable to unemployed, underemployed, disabled, and low-income workers. Specifically it will be those in the Winnebago County Employment Transportation Feonix Mobility Rising Program. Twenty-nine grants totaling more than $5.1 million were awarded through the state’s Commute to Careers program.
Deal For Veterans Salute At Menominee Nation Arena
The Menominee Nation Arena in Oshkosh will have a salute to veterans starring 38 Special and Lonestar this Saturday at 7:30 pm. Ralph Harrison is the Sales and Marketing Director at the Arena. He says veterans can get 25 percent off their tickets and tomorrow they can get a free ticket to the event if they show their military ID. “All day at our ticket office from 10 am to 5 pm any veteran who comes in with an ID showing he’s a veteran you get a free ticket to our event.” The special will be for all past and current military personnel. Tickets are limited, so veterans are encouraged to come early and show proper military ID. Veterans who already purchased tickets may still get one free ticket for a friend or family member.
