Gun Deer Hunt Harvest Totals

According to the state Department of Natural Resources preliminary numbers deer hunters took nearly 14,000 (13,697) more deer during the recently completed nine day gun deer hunt than they did last year. A total of 211,430 deer were harvested compared to 197,733 in 2017. That was an increase of 6.9 percent. Hunters in area counties also did well. In Dodge County hunters took 2,697 deer (up 2.6 percent), in Fond du Lac County 2,676 deer (+15.5), in Green Lake County 2,551 (+18.4), in Marquette County 4,199 (+18.5), in Waushara County 3,652 (+22.5), and in Winnebago County 1,160 (+14.3 percent). The most deer, 114,288, were harvested in the Central Farmland Deer Management District, which includes 36 of the state’s 72 counties including Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Marquette, Waushara and Winnebago counties.
