Costs For Joining Lakeside Municipal Court
Ripon Police Chief Bill Wallner says price was a factor in the City considering joining the Lakeside Municipal Court. The City will be able to cut overtime costs for officers that have to go to Fond du Lac now to be ready to testify in County Circuit Court for ordinance violations, plus there is a $5 fee charged by the court for each citation. He says the only cost for joining the Municipal Court will be a $1,500 fee for software they will need so there records are compatible with the courts. The Common Council at its next meeting will consider allowing the City to join the court. If they do the City would join the court next February.

Gift Card Scam
An official with the state’s Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection reminds residents to be leery of text messages and emails telling you that you’ve won a free $50 gift card from a big box retailer. Jerad Albracht says scammers know between Thanksgiving and Christmas a lot of people will be purchasing gift cards so the promise of gift card for themselves is tempting. He says a lot of the emails have links that could cost you in the long run. “Those are junk emails, they are scams and what they want you to do is to click on any of the links in the email to find out more. Well those emails links may drive you to a site where you’re going to pick up some malware on your computer. They could take you to a site where you think you’re taking some general survey in order to get the gift card, but they are actually just mining for data it’s going to be backed by identity thieves.” He recommends just deleting the text or email.
