Fall Drug Take Back Program In FDL County Successful

1 November 2018 News

Officials with Drug Free Communities of Fond du Lac County say Ripon had a big role in the recent Drug Take Back campaign. Both the Ripon Police Department and Ripon Medical Center have drug drop off locations for old and unused prescription drugs. The county-wide total for last weekend’s event came to 1,953 pounds. Together with the 2,171 pounds collected during a take back event in the spring that comes to more than two tons of medication collected for disposal for a third year in a row. Ripon Police Chief Bill Wallner feels it is a good way of reducing access to opioids in the home. “In the last few years we’ve been able to collect a significant amount of medications and dispose of those and get those out of the streets and homes in our community.” There are 12 drug drop boxes located across Fond du Lac County. Since the first at the Police Department in Fond du Lac in 2008 over 24.5 million pills have been collected and disposed of.
