The Packers begin prep for the 7-0 Rams without their quarterback. Aaron Rodgers was the only player not out on the field Tuesday for the Packers’ first practice out of the bye. Instead, Rodgers opted to take his regular rehab day.
He’s feeling rested after the bye – but is the jury’s still out on whether or not the Packers starting quarterback is fully healed. If Rodgers can ditch the brace on that left knee on Sunday, that’s a good sign.
“If I’m completely healed, I don’t need to wear a brace,” Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers said. “I feel more comfortable without it obviously. Having dealt with a knee injury for most of my football life, obviously you’re more protected. Obviously, some guys do wear it all the time, without having issue, but I just feel more comfortable without it on, so if it’s not on that means I’m feeling great, and if it is, that means, I’m not quite all the way back”
The other big question mark on the Packers’ offense is their receiving corps. Two of Rodgers top three targets, Geronimo Allison and Randall Cobb both sat out the last two games—Cobb also sat out the Bills game in Week 4. Neither of them have gotten the green light to play on Sunday, but they’re feeling a lot more optimistic about their chances than when they left for the bye.
Purdue Boilermakers guard Carson Edwards was the leading vote getter in The Associated Press preseason men’s All-America team released on Tuesday, appearing on 63 of 65 ballots from a national media panel. Edwards was joined by North Carolina forward Luke Maye, Duke freshman R.J. Barrett, Kansas big man Dedric Lawson, Nevada’s Caleb Martin and Wisconsin’s Ethan Happ.
In game one of the World Series, the Boston Red Sox defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-4 at Fenway Park.
Edward Nunez’s three-run homer off Alex Wood snuck over the top of the Green Monster in the seventh inning and broke open what had been a tense back-and-forth affair.
Because neither the Dodgers Clayton Kershaw nor Boston’s Chris Sale made it out of the fifth inning, this game fit the overarching October theme of postseason baseball becoming bullpen-dependent. The Red Sox simply had a few more key outs in their arsenal.
Boston jumped out to a 2-0 nothing lead in the first but the Dodgers and the game was tied at 3 after five innings. Manny Machado drove in three runs for the Dodgers and Matt Kemp hit a homer.
Game two is tonight at Fenway Park.
