FDL Man Caught After Running From The Scene Of A Crash
Charges are being sought against a 29-year-old Fond du Lac man who ran into a cornfield when Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene of a traffic crash early Sunday morning. Deputies responded to the intersection of Hinn Road and Kraus Lane in Mount Calvary for a report of a truck stuck in a ditch. The Fond du Lac man, who was a passenger in the truck, was quickly caught. Obstructing, bail jumping, and having open intoxicants in a vehicle charges have been referred against him. He was taken into custody on a probation hold. The incident happened about 12:45 Sunday morning.
Sheboygan Woman Sentenced For Kennel Deaths
A Sheboygan County judge recently sentenced a 39-year-old Sheboygan woman to a year in jail on causing mental harm to a child and mistreatment of animals causing death charges. Christie Rose Tuchel will also serve eight years on probation. Charges stemmed from a search of the Kinship Kennels in the Town of Wilson where investigators found 36 lives dogs, but two freezers full of dead dogs. A teen ordered to take care of the dogs told authorities about the conditions the animals were living in. One co-defendant will be sentenced this Friday, while another stands trial also this month.
Referendum On Lowering Speed Limit On Interstate 41
The Outagamie County Board this month will consider a referendum to reduce the speed limit on Interstate 41 from 70 to 55 miles an hour. The referendum issue has already passed in two of the board’s committees. According to Grand Chute Police there were 567 accidents on I-41 between August 2016 and September of this year. During that same time frame there were 323 accidents in Appleton. Governor Walker has already asked the DOT to do an operational and safety study for the highway between Appleton and De Pere. That’s expected to take six months. The referendum asks for the speed reduction until the Interstate can be expanded, which could be a six to ten year project.
Better To Get Flu Shot Now
Nearly 400 people (379) in Wisconsin died from the flu last year and over 7,500 more were hospitalized due to complications from Influenza. Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says it is important to get that flu shot and they urge people to get one before the end of the month. She notes there are ways you can try and avoid getting the flu, but the most effective way is to get the shot. She says, “There’s a lot of different things you can do to kind of protect yourself from getting that flu, but really that best way to protect yourself is getting that flu shot.” Mueller says if you do get the flu and you got a shot it should help lessen the symptoms and the amount of time you are sick. Ripon Culvers Donates To The American Red Cross Flood Relief Effort
The Culvers in Ripon is doing its part in helping out Wisconsin Flood Relief. On September 20th the restaurant donated a portion of its sales to raise funds for the American Red Cross Wisconsin Flood Relief effort. Over $560 was raised to help support the effort. a restaurant official says doing their part to help just feels right and they are proud to call Ripon home. Culvers support of the American Red Cross is part of their dedication to giving back to the community.
Well Water Testing Program Expanded
Officials at the Fond du Lac County UW-Extension Service say they have extra sample bottles from the water sampling program for the Town of Empire so any County resident who would like to have their well water tested can pick them up. If you are interested call the Extension Service at 920-929-3173 to reserve your bottles. You can pick them up and pay for testing at the Extension Office on the second floor of Administration/Extension Building on the UW-Fond du Lac campus between 8 am and 4:30 pm the rest of this week and through next Monday. Water must be sampled next Monday evening or early next Tuesday morning and delivered to the UW-Extension Office before 9 am next Tuesday. Costs vary on the testing you have done. There are three different test packages it costs $123 for all three.
