Documents Signed For Hwy 23 Expansion

The state’s Department of Transportation says the limited scope supplemental environmental impact statement and record of decision for the expansion of State Highway 23 between Fond du Lac and Plymouth have been signed. State and Federal Highway officials signed the documents Monday meaning the state can move from a preliminary design for a 4-lane expansion to final design and construction. State DOT Secretary Dave Ross says it addresses all of the court’s concerns that halted the project two years ago. The project reconstructing 19 miles of the highway will begin construction next summer in Sheboygan County. Reconstruction on the Fond du Lac County portion will be completed in 2022. It will be designed as an expressway. The document is available on the State Highway 23 project website.

Green Lake County Board Mulls Changes To Health Insurance Plan

There would be fewer health insurance coverage options for Green Lake County employees under a resolution being considered by the County Board tonight. With rising health insurance costs and levy limits the county’s 2019 health insurance plan will offer employees a Tier 1 program that increases their share of the premium from 8 to 12 percent. A Tier 2 program would keep employees’ premiums at 8 percent, but the annual deductible amount would increase. The county’s total share of costs for the two tier program would be more than $405,000. Doing away with a health reimbursement account and an opt out program will save the County more than $230,000. In compensation for those loses the County will add one personal day for each employee. The Board meets at 6 pm in the Government Center in Green Lake.

Red Cross Needs Donations To Help Out Hurricane Victims

There are a few ways you can give to relief efforts for the victims of Hurricanes Michael and Florence. Steve Hansen is the Executive Director of the Northeast Wisconsin chapter of the American Red Cross. He feels it would be wonderful if people could get the proper training to volunteer for the next natural disaster. But you can also give financial donations to the Red Cross to aid in their efforts. He says, “The American Red Cross operates solely on the generosity of the American people. So any donation will help, you know $5, $10, $25 so on and so forth will go a long way to make sure the Red Cross is there to help folks.” He also points out that a lot of blood drives in the area impacted by the hurricanes were canceled so they also need blood donations. Hansen says by visiting the Red Cross website you can find out about getting training as a volunteer, where local blood drives are scheduled or how to give financial donations.

Jerry Apps Appearance Benefits Princeton Public Library Expansion Effort

A fundraiser will be held in Green Lake this weekend that will benefit efforts to expand the Princeton Public Library. Officials would like to expand the library from 2,800 square feet to 6,500. They’ve been fundraising since the library opened in 1985, but in earnest for the past three years and have raised more than $800,000 of the $900,000 needed. Sommersmith says, “We are really excited to be submitting the project out to bid in the New Year so that we can actually start the construction and give this community back what they have so wonderfully helping to raise for so long.” This Saturday UW-Madison Professor Emeritus Jerry Apps will be appearing at the Green Lake American Legion from 6 to 9 pm where he will talk about his newest book, “Simple Things: Lessons from the Family Farm.” He’s written over 70 books. Tickets to the evening, which include dinner, a silent auction and more are $50. They are available through the library or by calling 920295-6777.
