Three Killed In Separate Accidents In Winnebago County Over The Weekend

Authorities in Winnebago County have released the names of three people killed in two separate accidents over the weekend. Eighty-one-year-old Russel Schmude of Omro was hit by a passenger car on State Highway 116 near Wiesner Road in the Town of Winneconne Friday morning. He died at the scene. Sheriff’s officials say it appears he was retrieving a newspaper or mail from a mail box. The car was driven by a 34-year-old Omro woman.

Winnebago County Sheriff’s officials also report 75-year-old Gary Martin and his wife 75-year-old Julie Sara who had been living in Sister Bay both died the result of a three vehicle accident Sunday afternoon on State Highway 21 east of Poygan Road or Edgewater Ridge. Martin died at the scene and his wife later at a hospital she was flown to. An Oshkosh couple in another vehicle suffered critical injuries and three others in a third vehicle had minor injuries.
