Clintonville Man Injured In Waupaca County Motorcycle Accident

Waupaca County Sheriff’s officials say a 36-year-old Clintonville man was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident Saturday evening. He was heading south on County Highway Y and failed to negotiate a curve. His biked entered a ditch near Behnke Road in the Town of Mattheson. He was flown to a hospital. He was the only one on the motorcycle. The accident was reported about 6:40 Saturday night.

Governor Walker Asking For Federal Disaster Declaration For 18 Counties

Adams, Columbia, Dodge, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, and Marquette are among the 18 counties Governor Scott Walker is requesting federal disaster aid for following August and September flooding and storms. An assessment by federal and state officials determined local government response and estimated damage repair will cost more than $37.2 million. Fond du Lac County Communications and Emergency Management Director Bobbi Hicken says a preliminary assessment of $409,100 qualifies the county for federal assistance for local government costs associated with the storms, but those costs could continue to go up. She says, “Again these are preliminary numbers that FEMA looks at however it could increase as we are still incurring costs with the debris cleanup and the restoration and there still is a potential for finding additional damages or problems.” She says even if they didn’t qualify for the federal assistance, they would still qualify for assistance from the state. Governor Walker sent a letter to President Donald Trump requesting a federal disaster declaration that would qualify the 18 counties for federal assistance.

Cocaine Trafficking Ringleader Convicted

The ringleader of a huge cocaine trafficking ring in Fond du Lac County will be sentenced on January 10th. Thursday 31-year-old Danny Andrews Jr. of Fond du Lac pleaded guilty to charges of cocaine trafficking and felon in possession of a firearm. Three other charges were dismissed. Andrews and Nicole Cassola allegedly ran a cocaine ring that sold $9.6 million or 120 pounds of drugs in the Fond du Lac area from July of last year to this past April. Cassola has a preliminary hearing in her case on November 9th.

Work Wrapping Up On Highway 23 Project

Work is wrapping on the State Highway 23 resurfacing project between Fond du Lac and Rosendale. According to DOT officials the only remaining work is final pavement markings, final cleanup, and completing a punchlist. The roadway from the Highways 23 and 26 intersection in Rosendale to Townline Road in Fond du Lac has been under construction since July 9th. An eight and a quarter mile stretch of Highway 23 was improved during the $5 million project.

IRS Scam Persistent

An official with the state’s Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection says month-to-month they continue to get complaints about the IRS Scam in which a caller poses as being an employee of the federal agency. Michelle Reinen is the Director of the Bureau of Consumer Protection. She says you have to remember the IRS does business by mail and not by phone. She says, “So just be on guard that the IRS does not make phone calls and demand you pay taxes over the phone using gift cards.” Reinen points out the IRS has a full process if you owe them back taxes and that involves a lot of writing back and forth.

DOT Seeking Comments On ADA Transition Plan

The state’s Department of Transportation invites the public to review and offer comments on the 2018 Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plan. Public comments on the plan will be used to help guide the department’s strategy for ADA improvements moving forward. The full plan and information about public comments can be found online. The DOT encourages anyone interested, including individuals with disabilities or organizations that serve individuals with disabilities, to participate in the public comment period through November 2nd. The transition plan includes a searchable inventory of more than 45,000 curb ramps throughout the state highway system to help guide future improvement priorities.

Trapping Auction Scheduled Thursday

The state’s Department of Natural Resources and United States Fish and Wildlife Service will hold a public trapping auction at the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center Thursday. Doors will open at 5 pm to allow trappers the opportunity to ask questions and review information. The auction will begin promptly at 6 pm. Trapping seasons and regulations, unit boundaries, special conditions/restrictions pertaining to each individual unit, trapping reports, as well as other information will be reviewed with the successful bidders. The center is located at N7725 HWY 28 in Horicon. The DNR will offer 10 wetland units during the 2018-19 trapping season.

The Weight Will Perform At The Thrasher Opera House

A band that carries on the legacy of the iconic Rock and Roll band, The Band, will be performing at the Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake later this month. The Weight was formed in 2013. Thrasher Development Director Rachael Avery says members of the group have played with Levon Helm’s Midnight Ramble Band and the Rick Danko group. Helm and Danko were members of The Band. Avery says the Weight gives a similar performance. She says, “They decided they were going to create a new band called The Weight and sort of recreate that Woodstock sound, that Americana, Roots Rock music.” The Weight will perform at the Thrasher on Saturday, October 27th at 7:30 pm.Tickets are available at the Thrasher, also Horicon Bank in Green Lake, Webster’s Marketplace and Ripon Drug in Ripon, and Twister in Princeton.
