The Green Lake County Sheriff’s Department Friday dedicated an “In the Line of Duty” memorial wall in memory of Deputy Bruce Williams. Williams was shot and killed responding to a domestic incident on October 19th of 2003 not far from the Sheriff’s office. Sheriff Mark Podoll was at a National Sheriff’s Conference in New Orleans where the focus was on serious situations that happen to law enforcement officers. That’s when he came up with the idea for the wall. He still has a tough time talking about Bruce who was a friend. “And I felt something needed to be done. Excuse me. So I come up with an idea that we were going to dedicate a wall in our department and the reason for this was that we wanted to make sure the family knew that we would never forget Bruce.” Podoll says each new deputy will be educated on the reason for the wall and be asked to sign it so they too can be a part of Bruce’s life. He says Bruce was very outgoing and loved to joke with people.
