Ripon’s Common Council was informed this week that it will make more sense to replace the entire Jackson Street Bridge rather than just repair the failing North Wall. Assistant City Engineer Travis Staab told the Council that there are issues with the soil at the site and the barrel culvert itself is at the end of its life span. It’s estimated it will cost $750,000. City officials will be looking into any possibilities of state or federal funding to help with replacement costs. “So it’s going to make sense to look at funding aspects of that and find some way to get that thing funded and the timeline to just redo the whole thing at once.” Mayor Gary Will says the bridge is not in danger of collapsing so they have time to look for funding sources for the replacement project.
