25 October 2018 News
For a brief seven minutes last fall AM1600 Your Hometown Station had a listener at the top of the world. Fifty-four-year-old Antti Aaltonen of Finland is a lawyer and radio enthusiast. During a listening trip to Arctic regions of Finland, about 175 miles north of the Arctic Circle, Antti using some elaborate equipment was able to pick up our signal. It happened on November 1st of last year between 8 and 8:07 pm our time. He was able to hear our legal ID, Fox News and an ad for Condon Total Comfort in Ripon before he lost the signal. He did send us a mp3 of a portion of what he heard and although it is not as clear as the signal you can hear you could identify that it came from Ripon, Wisconsin. Antti has a wife and three children, all grown. Two are in college and the other just graduated from high school. His wife is also a lawyer they live in the Helsinki region. He says in the early 1980s he spent some time in Spokane, Washington as an exchange student. He actually graduated from high school there. He has visited other areas of the U.S. on trips here.
