Yells For Help From Fox River In Oshkosh
Yells for help were heard from the Fox River in Oshkosh Sunday morning, but when Police showed up to investigate no one could be located. It happened in the area of the Oregon Street Bridge about 5:30 that morning. Officers didn’t see anyone in the water and a search along the shoreline also turned nothing up. The Oshkosh Fire Department also deployed a boat team to search the water. The search took a couple of hours.
Second Round Of Bids Being Accepted For Former Boca Grande Properties
Fond du Lac County officials will take a second round of bids for some former Boca Grande properties in downtown Ripon. Bids were supposed to be opened last week for the foreclosed properties the County was hoping to get a minimum bid of $400,000 for. However not a single bid was received by the County Treasurer’s Office. County Board Chairman Marty Farrell, a Ripon resident, says the County’s Finance Committee authorized a second round of bids, this time hoping to get a minimum bid of $325,000. Farrell says there are some savvy business people in Ripon who are interested in the properties at 303 and 305 Watson Street. (He says, “They just didn’t feel they could make a go of it at An open house will be held at the properties on Monday, October 2nd from 10 am to Noon. Forms for bids are due back to the County Treasurer’s Office on Monday, October 15th. They can be found at the County’s website.
Green Lake County Board Approves Countywide Ambulance Feasibility Study
The Green Lake County Board of Supervisors recently approve a countywide ambulance feasibility study. A two-thirds vote of the board was needed for approval to hire a consultant. The vote was 11 in favor and 5 against with two members absent from the meeting and one more abstaining from the vote. The county has three ambulance services based in Berlin, Markesan and Princeton. There is a $35,000 cap on the cost of the study.
Improving Student Safety
The Ripon Area School District received more than $1.25 million in grant funding over the summer including money to make sure of student safety. District Superintendent Mary Whitrock says two grants totaling a quarter million dollars were for facility safety improvements. She says, “To make them safer, add some additional cameras radios, we put in some perimeter fences and then just doing some additional training to make sure that we are prepared in the event that there is any kind of emergency situation that occurs in the schools.” Another component of making the schools safer was trauma and mental health training for staff. The Student Service Department also wrote for a mental health grant, which led to the creation of a one-year mental health navigator position.
Maintenance On Hwy 151
The state’s Department of Transportation reminds drivers that maintenance crews are working on repairing a concrete panel on US Highway 151 between County Y and Wonser Road in Fond du Lac County. Repairs are expected to take until about noon on Friday. There will be a continuous lane closure on northbound Highway 151 in the work zone.
Coffee With A Cop A Good Program
Berlin Police Chief Dennis Plantz says their once a month “Coffee with a Cop” program is a good source of information for residents and police alike. He says recently a woman complained about the way her accident was handled, but it gave her a chance to talk it out. He says, “Well I just had a gal here recently who talked to me about a crash she was involved in and how she thought it wasn’t right the way she was cited for that.” The program features other law enforcement officers and this month included a conservation warden for the DNR. “Coffee with a Cop” is held the third Thursday of the month at 9 am at the McDonald’s in Berlin.
Officers Selected For FVWDB Consortium
The Fox Valley Workforce Development Board started its new program year on July 1st with a new trio of county leaders in top roles for its County Consortium. Serving as Consortium Chair is Mark Harris, Winnebago County Executive. Consortium Vice-Chair is Alice Connors, Calumet County Board Chair. Allen Buechel, Fond du Lac County Executive, will serve as Consortium Secretary. Also representing counties on the Consortium are Green Lake County Board Chairman Harley Reabe (REE-bee), Waupaca County Board Vice Chair Joe McClone, and Waushara County Board Chair Donna Kalata. Terms for Harris, Connors and Buechel run through next June.
