Congress Working On Tax Cut Bill
Congressman Glenn Grothman says Congress hopes to pass a tax cut bill by the end of the month. He says some of the things they would like to accomplish with the bill is to eliminate the requirement to take money out of your IRA when you are 70 ½ years old. He’d like to also see an increase in the amount of money people are able to put into a health savings account. Grothman has had his input on the bill. He says, “I’ve been weighing-in trying to get more tax cuts for the average working man and I’m still hopeful that we are going to do something towards bringing back the employee business expense which is frequently used by people who have to travel away from home.”
Backlog Of Untested Sexual Assault Kits Cleared
State Attorney General Brad Schimel announced Monday that a major milestone has been reached in an initiative to clear the backlog of testing on all sexual assault kits submitted to the state crime lab. The initiative was a statewide effort by Schimel to tackle the decades-long accumulation of previously unsubmitted sexual assault kits that were in the possession of local law enforcement agencies and hospitals across Wisconsin. Schimel says when he took office in 2015 there were more than 6,000 kits that had been submitted for testing to the state crime lab, some of them dating back to the 1980s. Now all 4,154 kits submitted for testing by the end of last month have been tested. Schimel’s challenger in the Attorney General’s race, Josh Kaul has been critical of delays in the testing saying it has left dangerous criminals on the street.
