Four Shot Including Shooter In Middleton Shootings
A suspect who shot three people in Middleton Wednesday has died after being shot by police. Police say the suspect entered a software company in the city and began shooting. Three victims were taken to Madison area hospital for the treatment of gunshot wounds. The suspect died after being taken to a hospital. Police were called to WTS Paradigm in the 1800 block of Deming Way for an active shooter situation just before 10:30 Wednesday morning.
Estimate Given On Municipalities Costs For August Storm Damage In FDL County
The Communications and Emergency Management Director for Fond du Lac County says the bill for damage associated with tornadoes and storms that moved through the area August 28th came to $650,000 for municipalities doing cleanup and repairs. Bobbi Hicken says that does not include the damage to private homes and businesses. She says, “And that is just for public costs so the charges that were put on municipalities for debris cleanup or unblock the roadways that were blocked by trees and power lines, etc.” State officials estimate the total cost for all damage for 17 counties affected by flooding and storms from August 17th through September 14th came to $234 million.
Temporary Restraining Order Granted Against Omro School Board Member
The Omro School District has been granted a temporary restraining order against one of its board members. A Winnebago County judge granted the school district a restraining order against Joan Beem . Beem is suspected of harassing the district’s superintendent and other board members. She is accused of cyber bullying through emails and in one instance showed up at another board member’s home and sat in the driveway refusing to leave until police intervened. The district alleges the harassment began more than five years ago, but is has escalated in the past two years.
Dodge County Supervisors Approve Funding For Courtroom Technology Review
Supervisors on the Dodge County Board this week approved a transfer of $70,000 to cover the cost of a technology study of the County’s five circuit courtrooms. An ad hoc committee selected Pro Audio Designs to do the review and make recommendations about replacing the antiquated audio and visual equipment. Judge Joseph Sciascia, who sits on the committee, says it’s time for upgrade. The study is expected to take several months and will be completed next year. The County has set aside $650,000 in next year’s budget to cover project costs.
Technical Colleges Receive Funding To Train For Dual Enrollment Students
Governor Scott Walker recently announced the awarding of $3.6 million in Dual Enrollment Fast Forward grants to 14 technical schools to help students across the state at 209 school districts. Among those schools Moraine Park Technical College will receive $275,000 to train a minimum of 71 teachers and Fox Valley Technical College will receive the same amount to train 130 teachers in Higher Learning Commission Dual Enrollment standards. With the training the teachers will be able to teach high school students technical college courses.
Dedication Ceremony Scheduled For Marian University Science Center
Dedication ceremonies are scheduled at Marian University in Fond du Lac for the school’s renovated and expanded science center. It’s named after former Marian President Richard Ridenour and his wife Leslie. He was the school’s 11th president. An additional 17,000 square feet was added to the science center. School officials have scheduled a private invitation-only ceremony on Friday, September 21st at 3 pm in the center’s atrium. A public open house will be held during Marian’s Homecoming on Saturday, September 29th from 1-4 pm.
Pasta Lunch Benefits FDL Area United Way
The Fond du Lac County Employees United Way Committee is sponsoring a “Pasta for Lunch” event to support the Fond du Lac Area United Way today. It is from 11 am to 1 pm on the first floor of the City-County Government Center. You will have your choice of Lasagna, Chicken Alfredo or Pizza Casserole along with garlic bread for a cost of $4.00. The Fond du Lac County Board approved a resolution this week proclaiming September and October as United Way months in honor of the annual campaigns conducted by the Fond du Lac and Ripon Area United Way chapters.
