Winnebago County Injury Accident

A 29-year-old man was injured when he rolled his vehicle coming off a ramp on Interstate 41 in the Town of Fox Crossing late Tuesday night. Winnebago County Sheriff’s officials say the man failed to negotiate a curve and went into a southbound ditch where his vehicle rolled over several times. He was thrown from it. He was taken to ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the accident, which was reported about 11 o’clock Tuesday evening.

FDL Infant Death Investigation Determines Homicide

Police in Fond du Lac say the death of an infant this past June was a homicide. Assistant police chief Steve Klein says they will be forwarding the case to the Fond du Lac County District Attorney’s Office for homicide charges. The state’s Department of Children and Families says the twomonthold infant died from injuries consistent with head trauma and maltreatment. The County’s Social Services Department assessed the baby’s death and found evidence supporting physical abuse by the mother and neglect by the father. Police responded to a residence on East Merrill Avenue on June 25th for a report of a choking infant. CPR was attempted, but the baby died at the hospital.

Another Violent Sex Offender From Racine County Denied Discharge

While Fond du Lac County appeals a decision to place a violent sex offender from Racine County at a residence in the Town of Eldorado, a Racine County jury has denied another violent sex offender’s petition for discharge. Sixty-nine-year-old Dennis Yarber was sentenced in April of 1996 for three separate cases of second degree sexual assault of a child. He was scheduled for release from prison in October of 2014, but the state’s Department of Justice successfully petitioned to have him committed as a sexually violent person in September of 2016. Yarber filed a petition to be discharged in September of last year. Last Friday a Racine County Jury agreed with the state and denied his petition. Meanwhile Fond du Lac County is fighting the placement of another Racine County violent sex offender Preston Rinatamaki and has taken that battle to the Wisconsin Appeals Court’s Second District.

Fire Destroys Garage In FDL

Fire destroyed a detached garage in Fond du Lac Tuesday night. City Fire and Rescue officials say it happened at 376 Ruggles Street. Firefighters found smoke and flames coming from the garage when they arrived. The fire also burned the side of a single family home. There was minor damage to the home, but the garage was completely destroyed. Heat also damaged the siding on three nearby structures. No one was hurt during the blaze.

Drivers Asked To Go Slow In School Zones

Ripon Police School Resource Officer Bret Henning is asking drivers to be especially cautious driving in school zones during drop off and pick up times. He recommends reducing your speed and watching for children who don’t always cross a street at the crosswalk because the safety of those kids is at stake. Henning says they have four crossing guards on duty during those times. He says they are stationed at Oshkosh Street, crossing Murray Park on Sunset Avenue, Metomen Street and at Barlow Park across Griswold. The speed limit is 15 miles per hour in a school zone when children are present. Henning also reminds drivers no left turns are permitted from East Sullivan Street onto Metomen Street from 3 to 3:30 pm. Parents are also urged to remind kids to use crosswalks and watch for traffic.

Fourth Tornado Siren Being Added In Waupun This Fall

A fourth tornado siren will be added in Waupun to cover the southeast corner of the City. The Waupun Common Council this week approved spending up to $10,000 to cover the cost of a pole and electrical connections. The remaining $18,000 for the siren will be covered by Federal Signal the firm that installed the other three sirens in the City last fall. A study found sirens didn’t reach the 80 decibel threshold needed to adequately cover the southeastern portion of Waupun. Officials hope to have the fourth emergency siren in place before the end of the year.

Grothman Backs Bill That Would Prohibit House Members Board Memberships

Congressman Glenn Grothman continues to support a bill that will prohibit the kind of activity that led to the indictment of New York Congressman Chris Collins for “insider-trading- like” activities. Specifically the bill authored by Congressman Tom Reed and Congresswoman Kathleen Rice, both of New York, will prohibit House members from being on the board of publicly traded or publicly regulated companies. Collins sat on the board of a corporation and would allegedly tip family members when there might be a dramatic drop in the price of the company’s stock. Grothman says it is something they can’t allow. In April Grothman introduced a bill, the Member Financial Transparency Act, that would further curtail members of Congress from unethical practices by reducing the reporting deadline for certain financial transactions from 45 days to ten days after completion.
