Daniel Carlson missed two field goals in overtime, including one from 35 yards as time expired, and the Minnesota Vikings had to settle for a 29-29 tie with the Green Bay Packers after rallying from a late 13-point deficit on Sunday. The rookie pushed his final kick wide right, just like his attempt from 49 earlier in overtime. Packers kicker Mason Crosby matched a career high with five field goals, but his potential game-winner from 52 went wide left as time expired in regulation.

Both quarterbacks had great games. Aaron Rodgers played with a brace on his injured left knee and threw for 281 yards and a score. Minnesota’s Kirk Cousins threw for 425 yards and four touchdowns, including three in the fourth quarter as the Vikings came back from a 20-7 deficit.

Facing double coverage, Adam Thielen still caught a 22-yard touchdown pass from Cousins with 31 seconds left on a drive that included a roughing-the-passer penalty on Clay Matthews. Stefon Diggs caught a 2-point conversion pass to tie it at 29. It was Cousins’ third touchdown pass of the fourth quarter.

Rodgers, who finished 30 of 42. Davante Adams caught 8 passes for 64 yards including a nine-yard touchdown pass. Jim Graham caught six for 95 and Geronimo Allison snagged six for 64 yards. Jamall Williams rushed 16 times for 59 yards. The Packers get one touchdown on special teams after Geronimo Allison blocked a punt that was recovered by Josh Jackson in the end zone for a touchdown in the first quarter. Green Bay and Minnesota are both 1-0-1. The Packers play at Washington Sunday.

New NFL Hall-of-Famer Jerry Kramer was honored at haltime of the Packers-Vikings game. Kramer had his name unveiled as the newest Packer in the NFL Hall of Fame. Kramer also received his Pro Football Hall of Fame Ring of Excellence during the ceremony, something he’s waited more than four decades to get into.

Back-to-back ninth-inning home runs by Jesus Aguilar and Domingo Santana snapped the Brewers’ streak of 16 scoreless innings, but Milwaukee’s comeback attempt fell short in a 3-2 loss to the Pirates on Sunday afternoon at Miller Park.

The Brewers missed an opportunity to gain on the Cubs in the National League Central. Chicago fell to the Reds on Sunday, so Milwaukee remains 2 1/2 games back in the division. The Brewers’ lead at the top of the NL Wild Card standings is three games.

Pirates starter Trevor Williams continued his second-half dominance with six shutout innings. He scattered two hits and a pair of walks while striking out seven and now has a 1.19 ERA since the All-Star break.

Brewers manager Craig Counsell juggled his starting rotation to get Jhoulys Chacin on the mound for the series finale. Chacin held up his end of the bargain, allowing two runs over five innings, but Milwaukee’s offense struggled for the right-hander’s second straight start.

The Brewers continue their homestand Monday against Cincinatti with Wade Miley going against Reds righy Anthony DeSclafini. First pitch is at 7:10.

The 5th ranked Wisconsin Badgers suffered a major blow Saturday. The Badgers were beaten at home by BYU, 24-21 at Camp Randall.
