Arrest In Car Versus Pedestrian Accident In FDL

Police in Fond du Lac arrested a 38-year-old Fond du Lac man Thursday night after he struck a pedestrian with his car. The 33-year-old man hit by the vehicle was taken to St. Agnes Hospital with serious injuries. The accident happened at the intersection of Johnson and Main shortly after 9:30. Officers found over a case of empty beer cans in the suspect’s vehicle and a preliminary breath test put his blood alcohol level at more than 2 1/2 times the legal limit. He is being held in the Fond du Lac County Jail.

Area Counties Getting Flood Relief

Governor Scott Walker and the Public Service Commission Friday announced $1 million in new flood relief for Wisconsinites that were impacted by the recent heavy rains and flooding across the state. The 18 counties being assessed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency include Adams, Columbia, Crawford, Dane, Dodge, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Iron, Jefferson, Juneau, La Crosse, Marquette, Monroe, Ozaukee, Richland, Sauk, Vernon, and Washington. Walker says, “This summer’s severe rainfall and flooding affected people in local communities across the state.” He says the additional funding will help families and small businesses get back on their feet.

Department Heads Present Dodge County Budget

Dodge County department heads presented an overview of the County’s 2019 budget plan to the Finance Committee Thursday night. The Sheriff’s Office will be getting an increase of $2.2 million. Sheriff Dale Schmidt says that will make up for the revenue they lost when they closed a portion of the County Jail that was being used to house prisoners from Immigration and Customs Enforcement and US Marshals. In turn the Sheriff’s department will purchase fewer handguns, reduce the number of tasers being replaced and cut other equipment purchases. The County Board will adopted the budget in November.
