Congressman Grothman On Supreme Court Nominee Confirmation Hearings

Congressman Glenn Grothman feels the U.S. Senate’s confirmation hearings of Supreme Court nominee Brett Cavanaugh have been a little more hostile than they needed to be. The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah feels confident Cavanaugh will be confirmed. Cavanaugh will replace Justice Kennedy who was appointed by President Ronald Reagan and served until just a few months ago. Grothman says who a President is able to appoint to the U.S. Supreme Court is part of that President’s legacy. He says, “Frequently the most important legacy a President has is who he nominates to the Supreme Court. It is very important. It is also very important because in our Constitution our forefathers didn’t put a check on the Supreme Court. You know the Supreme Court is a check on Congress, it’s a check on the President, but there is no check on the Supreme Court so we have to make sure we get these decisions right.”

Expanded Hours Being Considered For Ripon Compost Center

The City of Ripon is considering expanding the hours of its Compost Center to keep it open on Thursday evenings. City Administrator Lori Rich says the city’s Public Works Director Mike Ehrenberg would like to have something similar to what the City of Fond du Lac has with a 24/7 drop-off center for leaves and grass clippings. Rich says a permit fee would help fund the cost of the expanded hours for the Compost Center. She says, “That cost for that would be funded by a $10 annual permit, which would include a sticker that residents would put on their vehicle which would show that they are residents.” She says the Common Council asked for more information about how many people would use the center and how much revenue it might raise.
