FDL Man Dies From Drowning

Fond du Lac Police say a 47-year-old Fond du Lac man who nearly drown in the harbor at the marina near Lakeside Park has died. Daniel Thompson was taken to St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac Sunday afternoon after he was rescued from what is known as the “Big Hole.” Witnesses pulled him from the water and a bystander gave him CPR. A police officer and City Fire and Rescue continued it and other life saving measures as he was taken to the hospital. He died at the hospital Tuesday. Officers determined Thompson went out into the water to retrieve a remote-controlled boat that had lost power, but winds and currents carried it further out and Thompson wasn’t able to swim back to shore. The Fond du Lac County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the preliminary cause of death to be consistent with fresh water drowning.
