Fond du Lac County Emergency Management warns residents that have sustained damage from last week’s storms to be careful when dealing with contractors and others offering their services as the community continues to recover from the damages the storms left. Emergency Management Director Bobbi Hicken says there are some warning signs to look for that will raise suspicions about the legitimacy of the contractor you are working with. She says, “If they are forcing somebody to sign a contract without really reading it, requesting cash only or things like that. Those are just really red flags you need to make sure you are keeping an eye on and ensuring you are not getting scammed in the process of healing from this disaster.” To avoid the scam, always carefully question strangers who come to your house unsolicited to offer repairs, always make sure the contractors are licensed and legitimate before you sign anything.
