Shuttle Bus Versus Semi Injures Eight
Eight people were hurt when a semi hit their shuttle bus in Sheboygan County’s Town of Lima late Sunday night. Sheriff’s officials say they got 911 calls around 11:30 about the accident at County Highway I and County Highway V. Investigators say the transport shuttle failed to stop at a stop sign while it was heading north on County Highway I. The semi was heading east and couldn’t avoid striking the shuttle. The shuttle bus driver was cited for failing to yield.
Former Oshkosh Correctional Officer Bound Over For Trial
The 38-year-old former Oshkosh Correctional officer suspected of having sexual contact with an inmate while working for the prison has been bound over for trial. April Paulsen of Oshkosh is charged with second-degree sexual assault by a correctional officers She waived her preliminary hearing in Winnebago County Court Monday. She’s also suspected of supplying the inmate with nude photos of herself. Prison security and Oshkosh Police began an investigation May 11th after getting a tip. Paulsen had begun working at the prison about a month prior to that. Paulsen and the inmate both worked in the kitchen. She will be arraigned on August 20th.
FDL County Clerk Expecting A Third Of Voters Will Vote Today
Fond du Lac County Clerk Lisa Freiberg is expecting a healthy turnout for today’s Primary Election. She says with races for Governor, the U.S. Senate, and local races including several Sheriff’s races she expects about a third of registered voters to turn out for the election. She says there is a lot on the ballot and she believes 33 percent of the registered voters will cast their ballots today. She notes as of August 1st there were 53,604 registered voters in Fond du Lac County. Voters are also reminded they will need to provide photo ID and can vote only one-party.
Sheriffs Races
A trio of Sheriff’s races in the area take the spotlight in today’s Primary Election. In Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Captain Ryan Waldschmidt and Deputy Mike Norton face each other. In Waushara County Berlin Police Chief Dennis Plantz faces Sheriff’s Deputies Lafe Hendrickson and Walter Zuehlke. Dodge County incumbent Sheriff Dale Schmidt is being challenged by Sheriff’s Lieutenant Jim Ketchum. All of those Sheriff’s candidates are running as Republican candidates with no opposition in November. Incumbent Sheriff’s in Green Lake and Winnebago Counties are running unopposed.
Suspicious Vehicle Reported In Dodge County
Authorities in Dodge County are asking residents to be on the lookout for a suspicious vehicle. Sheriff’s officials have gotten several reports about a large brown or tan van or suburban type vehicle driving around and stopping at residences. When it stops the vehicle horn is honked. This has been reported in the rural areas outside of Juneau and Beaver Dam. Authorities belive it is possible this is being done as the vehicle cases properties to see if anyone is home prior to a burglary attempt. Anyone with any information or that has witnessed this happening is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office and report the information. You are also reminded to make sure your vehicles and house doors are locked when you are away.
Lemonade Day Success
Fond du Lac Area Lemonade Day participants gave $8,000 in Lemonade Day profits back to the community. The event took place on Saturday May 5th with an estimated 75 stands throughout the area. Lemonade Day teaches students in grades 4-6 how to start, own and operate their own business through the tool of a lemonade stand. As part of this unique educational program, students were asked to submit their business results following the event. This year’s results are outstanding with a total of $16,000 raised by the young entrepreneurs. Youth were encouraged to spend, save, and share some of their profit. The students gave to various charities including Salute The Troops, Fond du Lac Humane Society and Agnesian HealthCare Foundation.
