Grothman Comments On GOP Primary Victories

Congressman Glenn Grothman feels the GOP has a shot at keeping the seat currently held by Paul Ryan in the House. Bryan Steil won the Republican Primary and will face Democrat Randy Bryce for the seat in November. Grothman believes Steil will win the seat. On the other hand State Senator Leah Vukmir’s hard-fought victory in the U.S. Senate primary is just a first step in an effort to upset incumbent Senator Tammy Baldwin. Grothman says it is important to have someone in the Senate who will vote to protect our southern borders, for welfare reform, and to maintain a strong military. He thinks Vukmir is that person. As for his own race against Democrat Dan Kohl, Grothman says Kohl is the most well financed opponent he’s faced in his three campaigns for Congress.

Sale Of Rosendale Biodigester Could Help UW Foundation Pay Down Debt

A Fond du Lac County judge has approved a plan from the UW-Oshkosh Foundation to auction off one of two biodigesters this month to pay off creditors. Judge Richard Nuss approved plans by the foundation to sell its Rosendale Biodigester at an August 27th auction. Biodigesters convert animal waste into energy. The foundation previously reported it was in “serious negotiations” with five qualified purchasers for the Rosendale property. The foundation owes $6.1 million on that biodigester and filed for bankruptcy in June of 2016. Sale of the biodigester is not expected to raise the full amount owed by the foundation.

Good Voter Turnout In Primary Election

Fond du Lac County Clerk Lisa Freiberg was pretty close to her prediction that 33 percent of registered voters in the County would cast their ballots in Tuesday’s election. About 31 percent or 17,259 voters participated in the Primary Election. There were few issues at the polls, but Freiberg says they did have to print more ballots for some polling locations. She says the interest was certainly there especially for a primary election where they don’t usually see a high voter turnout. An even bigger turnout is expected for the November General Election now that candidates have been finalized for the various federal, state, and county offices.

Waldschmidt Grateful For Support In Sheriff’s Race

For Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Captain Ryan Waldschmidt his first campaign for Sheriff was a success with him capturing nearly 82 percent of the vote in the Republican Primary Tuesday. With no announced opposition in November he will succeed Sheriff Mick Fink in January. Waldschmidt says it was a battle against Deputy Mike Norton who ran against him. He says he appreciates the confidence voters had in him as a candidate and he worked hard during the campaign to gain that support. He figures he knocked on more than 1,000 doors to meet with people during the campaign. Waldschmidt received 9,054 votes in Tuesday’s election while Norton got 2,048.

How Ripon Voted

Voters in the City of Ripon for the most part followed the lead of other voters in the state. For instance State Superintendent of Schools Tony Evers received 216 votes with the closest other Democratic candidate for Governor getting 60 votes. Evers won the statewide race. However although she carried the state in the Republican Primary for U.S. Senate, State Senator Leah Vukmir got 210 votes from Ripon voters while opponent Kevin Nicholson received 216 votes. In the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s race Captain Ryan Waldschmidt picked up 303 votes and Deputy Mike Norton collected 142. The total number of registered voters in the City is 3,840 and 24 percent of them or 911 of them cast their ballots in Tuesday’s election.
