Cocaine Arrests Just The Beginning
Charging 16 people responsible for selling nearly $10 million in cocaine and crack cocaine will make a dent in drug trafficking in the Fond du Lac area, but an official connected with the investigation says they aren’t done yet. Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney says they won’t be resting on their laurels. He says, “The message we have is we are not going to stop and this isn’t a victory lap where we are pretending like the work is done because the work isn’t done we know there are more illegal drugs and illegal guns on the street and we are committed to aggressively removing them from the streets and holding those criminals accountable.” The suspects were responsible for selling 127 pounds of cocaine and crack cocaine between July of 2017 and April of this year.
Oshkosh Stabbing Suspect Bound Over For Trial
The 35-year-old Oshkosh man suspected of stabbing a man and a woman outside of bar last month recently waived his preliminary hearing in Winnebago County Court. Jesse McComb was bound over for trial on two counts of attempted first degree intentional homicide. He will be arraigned on September 7th. According to the criminal complaint McComb stabbed the two after a man refused to sell him a cigarette. McComb allegedly stabbed the male victim three times, and the woman twice. He is being held in the County Jail on a $500,000 cash bond.
Online Games An Avenue For Sex Offenders
Waupun Police recently shared some information on their Facebook page from another police department. That department’s officers received a call from a concerned parent who said their children were receiving text messages from an unknown person and number. The concerned parent believed the person may have got their children’s cell phone number through an online mobile game called “Roblox.” Officers researched the number that was contacting the children and discovered it belonged to a subject on parole and who is also on the Michigan Sex Offender Registry. The suspect was arrested by local parole agents for the offense. Popular online cell phone games such as “Roblox” and “Minecraft”, when played online in public mode, allows other players to obtain personal information from each other. Police are encouraging parents to monitor their children’s online use of games, who they are speaking with, and the dangers of speaking with unknown subjects.
Primary Voting Reminders
There are a couple of things you should remember when you go to the polls to vote on Tuesday for the Primary Election. First and foremost you can only vote one-party. If you cross over vote it will invalidate your ballot. Fond du Lac County Clerk Lisa Freiberg also reminds voters that they need photo ID. She says a driver’s license, passport or veteran’s ID are acceptable forms of photo ID and there are others. But make sure you do not have an expired license or passport because they won’t be acceptable. There are a number of races to narrow down including for Governor, U.S. Senate, and a number of Sheriff’s races in the area.
Former Sheriff Endorses Waldschmidt
Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s candidate Ryan Waldschmidt has picked up another endorsement. The Sheriff’s Captain now has the support of former County Sheriff Jim Gilmore. Gilmore deputized Waldschmidt in the deputy reserve program in 1998. Gilmore believes Waldschmidt to be the most qualified candidate. His opponent is Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Norton who is also running as a Republican candidate. The two face each other in Tuesday’s primary election, with the winner facing no opposition in November.
Schools Safety Grants
Forty-seven more schools and school districts in Wisconsin will be sharing more than $1.5 million in grants to make safety improvements. In the latest round State Attorney General Brad Schimel also announced that schools interested in applying for a second round of funding will have to apply by today. Among the schools receiving funding in the latest rounds of safety grants is Waucosta Lutheran Grade School in Campbellsport, which will receive $13,290.
