Marijuana Referendum On FDL County Board Agenda
16 August 2018 News
Depending on what the Fond du Lac County Board decides next Tuesday night voters in the County could vote on an advisory referendum in November that calls for the legalization of marijuana. County Board Chairman Marty Farrell says ultimately it is up to the state legislature whether or not to make the use of marijuana legal. He sees little controversy in the resolution, but says some of its clauses might not sit well with everyone because it is still considered a gateway drug. Wording in the resolution includes information that a 2016 Marquette Law School poll found 59 percent of state residents feel Marijuana should be legalized and regulated like alcohol. The resolution would give County voters three choices; whether to legalize it and regulate its use for adults only, whether to legalize it for medicinal purposes only or to keep it a criminally illegal drug. County Supervisor Mary Hayes introduced the resolution for the Board’s consideration.
