Slithery Suspect
Two Omro policemen assisting a motorist got a surprise when they popped the hood on the woman’s SUV Wednesday night. She told them it was running strangely and no wonder there was a large snake that had knocked a belt loose and worked its way around the engine. When they tried to pull it out it wouldn’t budge. They called for a snake expert from Menasha and eventually the snake, a Ball Python, was freed from the engine. It was unharmed, but tired and scared.
Jane Doe Chemical Analysis Explained
There are some differences between DNA and the technology that helped Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s investigators pinpoint where a Jane Doe found by hunters ten years ago originally came from. Isotope chemical analysis let’s those investigators know she came from the Arizona or New Mexico areas and prior to her death in 2008 resided in the regions of South West Wisconsin, Southern Minnesota, and Northern Iowa. Sheriff’s Lieutenant Cameron McGee, who leads their detective division, says it’s a little different than DNA testing. He says, “There are certain chemical isotopes that are in your body which are consistent with a specific geographical area of residence.” They also know that Jane Doe was petite and 15 to 21-years of age.
Kmart Closings Does Not Include Stores In Wisconsin
Sears Holdings is closing 46 Sears or Kmart stores in November, but that does not include the Kmart in Ripon or any other Kmart stores in Wisconsin. The 13 Kmart and 33 Sears stores that are being closed are all losing money. Several hundred locations have been closed in the past few years. Sears officials say they are continuing to evaluate their network of stores and their may be additional closings.
Late Deputy DA Krueger Paid Tribute At FDL County Board Meeting
Fond du Lac County supervisors this week paid tribute to the late Deputy District Attorney Dennis Krueger. Supervisors passed a resolution honoring his memory and noting his accomplishments. Board Chairman Marty Farrell says they wanted the family and members of the public to all know how valuable he was and how much he was appreciated for his hard work and dedication. Krueger’s family and District Attorney Eric Toney also commented during the tribute. In the resolution it was mentioned that Krueger was recognized as Officer of the Year by the Fond du Lac County Law Enforcement Executive Association in 2018, the first prosecutor in association history to receive the award.
Jobless Rates Dip In July
Unemployment rates dropped below 3.5 percent last month for a number of area counties. According to federal labor statistics the jobless rate dropped to 3 percent for Fond du Lac and Winnebago counties and to 3.2 percent for Green Lake and Waushara counties. Those rates are also slightly less than they were in July of last year. Meanwhile the jobless rates for Oshkosh and Fond du Lac last month were at 3.1 and 3.3 percent respectively.
Congressman Grothman Endorsed By NFIB
Congressman Glenn Grothman has been endorsed by the nation’s leading small business advocacy association, the NFIB, in his effort to be reelected to Congress. Grothman got a 100 percent rating in voting for issues backed by the NFIB. NFIB Wisconsin State Director Bill G. Smith says, “Congressman Grothman has been a dedicated supporter of Wisconsin small businesses throughout his time in the U.S. House.” Democrat Dan Kohl is challenging Grothman this November for the 6th Congressional District seat. Kohl is the nephew of former U.S. Senator Herb Kohl.
