Motorcyclist Killed In Dodge County Accident
A man was killed while driving his motorcycle in southern Dodge County Wednesday afternoon. Sheriff’s officials say they received a report shortly before 2 pm of a bike that had gone off of County Highway R near County Highway MM. The operator was lying nearby and appeared to be dead. Investigators believe the bike was heading north on County Highway R and failed to negotiate a curve. The cycle and its operator came to rest in a cattail marshy area. The accident occurred in the Town of Lebanon about four miles northeast of Watertown.
Beaver Dam Acquitted Of Charge Resulting From Motorist’s Death
A Dodge County jury this week found a Beaver Dam man not guilty of driving under the influence when he hit and killed a woman on Highway 151 in August of last year. Twenty-nine-year-old Troy Kelm was acquitted in the death of 37-year-old Kaylan Davis also of Beaver Dam. She had gotten out of her vehicle to help another motorist who had been in an accident on Highway 151 in the Town of Calamus early that morning. Kelm was unable to avoid striking her. Davis died at the scene.
Guitars For Veterans Fundraiser In Neshkoro
The White River Marketplace in Neshkoro will be holding a fundraiser Saturday for a program that helps Veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Owner Kristine James says she used to take her Golden Retriever to the VA Center in Tomah to do pet therapy with Veterans. She was looking for another way to help when a customer suggested the Guitars for Veterans program. It teaches those veterans how to play guitar and the power of music helps heal them. Soon she got the itch to learn how to play herself. Three Veterans groups will perform Saturday; Jack Armstrong and Jim Meyer, Vets on Frets, and Guilty. There will also be food, raffles and other fun. Doors open at 10 am with things getting started at 11.
Ripon School District Staff Go Through Crisis Reunification Training
Ripon Area School District staff were introduced Thursday to a process for student reunification after a crisis forces an evacuation. It is part of the District’s crisis preparedness plan. The effort involved District personnel, the City of Ripon Police Department, Ripon Area Fire District and both Sauk County and Fond du Lac County Emergency Government. Jeff Jelinski, Sauk County Emergency Management Director, and Shelly Brown-Giebel from Fond du Lac County Emergency Government assisted District administration and local first responders to assure that each school has a plan in place to reunify parents with their children during emergencies, disasters, or other challenging incidents.
Tenants Rights Fact Sheet Available
An official with the state’s Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection says whether you’re a student moving into an apartment for the first time or a veteran apartment hunter you could benefit from one of their fact sheets. Michelle Reinen is the Director of the Bureau of Consumer Protection. She says you can download the fact sheet from their website. It’s called “Tenants Rights and Responsibilities.” The document addresses a wide range of rental-related topics including security deposits, rent increases, evictions, property maintenance, and more. Mercury Marine Offering Certification Program For Marine Technicians
Mercury Marine will offer additional programming for marine technicians as part of its Mercury University Accelerated Outboard Certification program. The program, which allows a select group of new technicians to become Mercury certified in only three weeks, will become part of Mercury University’s permanent offerings. To take part in the accelerated program, technicians must be employed by a Mercury dealership and are selected by a recommendation given by the dealership in conjunction with a Mercury Marine field service representative. Each session is limited to 14 technicians. Mercury University will be running a fall program in October 2018 and a spring program in April of 2019.
