Winnebago County Squad Car Hit By Drunken Driver

26 July 2018 News

Winnebago County Sheriff’s officials say one of their squad cars was hit Wednesday night by a suspected drunken driver. It happened at 10:18 while a deputy was seated in a parked squad car on the right shoulder near Breezewood Lane. The squad’s emergency lights were on while the deputy helped investigate a crash. That’s when a southbound car in the right lane swerved and hit the back of the deputy’s squad car. The suspect’s car spun and hit a vehicle that was behind it. The squad car was pushed into the car involved in the earlier crash the deputy was investigating. The deputy suffered only minor injuries, which didn’t require a trip to the hospital. A 60-year-old Neenah man suspected of driving drunk was arrested on his fourth drunken driving offense and other charges. Two people in the other car hit by the Neenah man were taken to a hospital with minor injuries. The crash shut down two lanes of I-41 for about an hour.
