One Party Voting During Primary Election
It bears repeating, you can only vote one party during the August 14th Primary Election. Fond du Lac County Clerk Lisa Freiberg says a lot of people don’t understand why it is that way, but if you cross over vote in the primary election it will invalidate your ballot. She says, “The ballot is full, it is a two-sided ballot. Of course a voter must stay within the one party. They can not cross over in this election at all.” Freiberg says there is a lot of interest in the election with eight Democratic candidates running for Governor, five Republicans vying for the U.S. Senate, and locally the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s race which features two Republican candidates and no Democrats.
UW Extension Service Evolving
A Fond du Lac County UW Extension Service representative says the UW-Extension’s administration may be shifting, but the mission of the Extension itself is not. Most of Wisconsin residents were farmers 100 years ago when the Extension Service came into being. But that has changed. Diana Hammer of the Extension Service says they still have agents that work with farmers, but they now do much more education. She says, “The Wisconsin Idea is that everyone in the state has access to the best information and resources from the University whether you are paying to sit in a class or not you have a right to the best information.” Some of the areas the Extension focuses on now include; Family Living, Nutrition programs, Natural Resources and Community Development, 4-H, and the Master Gardner’s program.
