Firefighters Injured In Waupaca County Crash
Waupaca County Sheriff’s officials say two firefighters suffered minor injuries after a crash Sunday night on Highway 10. It happened about 8 pm northwest of the City of Waupaca. A Waupaca fire truck was struck from behind by an SUV in the eastbound lanes of the highway. The emergency lights on the fire truck were activated because they were helping out at the scene of another crash. A helicopter flew the 48-year-old man that was driving the SUV to a hospital with serious injuries. The firefighters suffered only bumps and bruises in the crash.
School Supplies Sales Tax Holiday Starts Wednesday
State Representative Joan Ballweg of Markesan says a bipartisan bill signed into law earlier this year that created a five day sales tax holiday on school supplies goes into effect this week. Beginning Wednesday and running through Sunday sales tax will not be charged for all school supplies costing $75 or less, computers that cost $750 or less, or computer supplies that cost $250 or less. Ballweg says, “I am encouraged to hear over 555,000 families claimed the $100 Child Tax rebate. She adds that the sales tax holiday gives back to Wisconsin taxpayers and helps with the cost of supporting families. The bill also created a $100 per-child tax rebate.
Good Pilots Needed For Border Patrol Work
An interdiction agent for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency says the mission may be the same for agents working the U.S./Canadian and U.S./Mexican borders, but the results are significantly different. Rob Harshhorn was at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh last week with the helicopter he flies out of Niagra Falls, New York. He says day-to-day their missions are the same, but the work is different. He says one thing that is the same is finding good pilots to fly. He says it is tough to find qualified applicants because of the competition for experienced pilots. Harshhorn flew for airlines for 30 years before going to work for U.S. Customs and he says he enjoys the work.
Waldschmidt Picks Up Endorsements In Bid For FDL County Sheriff’s Seat
Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s candidate Ryan Waldschmidt has picked up a couple more endorsements in his bid for election to the office. Fond du Lac County Executive Allen Buechel and Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney have both endorsed him. Buechel says he’s worked with Waldschmidt on several projects and found him to be a strong leader who advocates for the needs of the Sheriff’s Office. Toney says of Waldschmidt, “I am impressed with Ryan’s intelligence, leadership and common sense as we work together to address drug issues, highway safety, chapter 980 violent sex offenders, and many other important issues.” Waldschmidt faces Sheriff’s Deputy and fellow Republican Mike Norton in the August 14th Primary Election. The winner will likely face no opposition in the November General Election.
