Puppy Video Causes Concern
Oshkosh Police say none of the puppies that were handled roughly by a 5-year-old girl were injured. In a video that went viral the girl is seen swinging the puppies around, patting their stomachs roughly, and flipping them upside down and shaking them. Officer Katherine Mann says seven of the eight puppies were checked over by a local veterinarian and an eighth sold to a family in Milwaukee also appears to be healthy. Police are working with the Oshkosh Humane Society, the Winnebago County District Attorney’s Office, the City of Oshkosh Attorney and Human Services on the case. Officer Mann says the Department cares about the safety of animals and continues to do all that they can do within the confines of Wisconsin laws and the City of Oshkosh’s ordinances,“to ensure that not only these animals are healthy but that we help this 5-year-old’s family with any additional resources that they may need to ensure that this behavior doesn’t happen again.”
Stray Bullets Fired In Neenah Neighborhood
Winnebago County Sheriff’s officials are looking for a person who has been firing off a .22 caliber firearm in the area of Terra Cotta Drive and Sundial Lane in the Town of Neenah. Officials say two rounds entered the Sundial Lane residential neighborhood in the last few weeks. Fortunately no one was hit by the rounds. They remind residents of rules that apply to firearms; to assume all guns are loaded, never let the muzzle cross anything you are not willing to destroy, keep your finger off the trigger and outside the trigger guard until you are firing. Most importantly know your target and what is beyond it.
Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing In Sheboygan County
A small plane flying from Washington Island to Sheboygan County had to make an emergency landing Saturday night. Sheboygan County Sheriff’s officials tell us the plane lost power and went down in a field south of County Highway FF and west of State Highway 32. Neither the pilot nor the passenger was injured when the plane landed in an open field. The plane is privately owned and wasn’t damaged during the landing.
Fire Displaces Dodge County Family
No one was injured when fire damaged a home in Dodge County’s Town of Oak Grove Sunday afternoon. Juneau Fire Department officials say the fire was at a home on County Road W. Flames and heavy smoke were coming from the house when firefighters arrived. Juneau and eleven other fire departments battled the blaze. The fire damaged the roof and ceilings of the home rendering it uninhabitable. The family living there was displaced.
Melanoma Warning
The public health officer for the Fond du Lac County Health Department is urging residents to use sunscreen when they are out in the hot sun. Fond du Lac County has the fifth highest rate of melanoma of Wisconsin’s 72 counties. Melanoma is the most dangerous type of skin cancer. Kim Mueller of the County Health Department says the American Cancer Society recommends using a sunscreen with a sun protection factor or SPF of 30 or higher with broad spectrum coverage. She says, “Thirty SPF or higher is recommended. It’s recommended to use the lotion first and then you can go about using that spray, but please use that lotion as that first base for your children and yourself.” According to the Fond du Lac County Community Health Survey Report, more than half of adults in Fond du Lac County never or rarely wear sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher when outside.
Insurance Licenses Revoked
Two area insurance agents were among those disciplined by the state’s Office of the Commissioner of Insurance last month. According to that office Sarah Ballard of Berlin and Nathanael Rosemond of Oshkosh had their insurance license revoked. Both allegedly owed delinquent Wisconsin taxes.
Change Of Location For the Berlin Farmers And Artists Market
The Berlin Farmers & Artists Market will be held at Nathan Strong Park today instead of Riverside Park, where it was held last week. The market begins at 4 pm with a variety of items such as flowers, produce, and crafts up for sale. Chris Jourdan, the entertainer for the night, will begin his performance at 5 pm in the Gazebo. The All Saint’s Parish Network will serve concessions throughout the evening. The Berlin Farmers & Artists Market is held every Tuesday from 4 to 7 pm through September.
