One of the vintage airplanes people attending EAA AirVenture will be able to see is the restored B-29 bomber known as “Doc.” Franklin Berry is the historian for “Doc’s Friends.” The plane was retired in 1956 and was sitting in a desert. Berry says what makes it special is it is the last restorable B-29 of the 24 left. He told our Wayne Mausser over 100 people put in 400,000 man-hours over the last 16 years restoring the plane including himself. He says 28 of those people have since passed away due to their age. “Doc” came off the assembly line in December of 1944. It has a top speed of 367 miles an hour. It cruises at a speed of 200 miles an hour.
