In the wake of a fatal explosion and fire in Sun Prairie, Ripon Area Fire District Chief Tim Saul is urging the public to take natural gas leaks seriously. The explosion killed one firefighter and injured five others. Saul says their hearts go out to the Sun Prairie Fire Department. His department handled a natural gas leak a couple days ago and the Fond du Lac Fire Department had one Wednesday morning. Saul stresses it only takes a split second to make a common call like a natural gas leak a tragedy. But he says the public needs to heed the advice of officials when they ask residents to evacuate an area during a gas leak. He says, “People need to call 911, get out of their buildings and get to a safe area and let us come and the energy company and mitigate the incident and get it taken care of.”
