Waupun Inmate Arraigned On Battery Charge
A Waupun Correctional inmate suspected of assaulting a corrections officer was recently arraigned in Dodge County Court. Thirty-four-year-old Ramon Alvarado Jr. pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned Thursday. A battery charge stems from an incident last December in which Alvarado became argumentative when staff tried to move him to another cell. Guards had to use pepper spray on him and according to the criminal complaint he threatened to “kill them once he got out.” When his restraints were removed he kicked a guard in the knee.
Hard To Keep Park In Winneconne Clean
Police are paying extra attention to a popular park in Winneconne where complaints are coming in about trash and people who don’t pick up after their dogs. As a popular place to swim— Lake Winneconne Park has been known to attract crowds, but lately those crowds are also leaving the village with a mess to clean up. Police say much of trash is being left along the shoreline and ending up either between the rocks, or floating in the water–which isn’t good for the environment. Right now it’s the village’s street department that’s picking stuff up. Police say trash left behind has always been a problem, but this summer because of the warmer weather it’s gotten worse.
Downtown Ripon Making Progress
Downtown Ripon Manager Craig Tebon says the downtown has made a lot of progress since the fire that devastated Watson Street in 2013. He notes the City has a nice selection of restaurants. Tebon explains that with the food piece in place that attracts other interest to the downtown and they’ve seen that in the past five years. He says, “Property owners have made tremendous improvements in downtown buildings that have set vacant for years. New businesses are coming in to the downtown and collectively over this last four or five years I think people are noticing there is something special taking place in downtown Ripon.” Tebon also says they are seeing a lot of businesses going through expansions or upgrades.

She says, “No matter what their project; it might be cooking or making a dress or writing a poem they are learning that skill, but then learning how to talk about it learning to talk through the process they used to do it with an adult judge.” About 700 kids in Fond du Lac County are involved in 4-H programs.
