FDL County Opens Up CodeRed Notification System To The Public
Fond du Lac County Communications and Emergency Management Director Bobbi Hicken says they have opened up the CodeRed Community Notification System to the public. The system until now was being used in house by the County and City of Fond du Lac which partnered on it. The system allows for the rapid delivery of emergency information to a targeted area or to an entire community through phone, email and/or text messaging. Hicken says if you log onto the County’s website and look for the CodeRed icon you can enter your phone numbers and information into the system for notification in case of an emergency in the area you live in. CodeRed would cover evacuation notices and directions that might be sent out in case of chemical spills, gas leaks and other emergency situations.

Comment Period For Hwy 23 Expansion Project Ending
The deadline for public comments on the expansion of Highway 23 between Fond du Lac and Plymouth is coming up quickly. The state Department of Transportation is looking for comments regarding the 19-mile expansion, and the deadline to submit them is next Tuesday. State legislators from the area say strong public participation is needed to demonstrate to the federal government the overwhelming local support for the project. If all goes as planned, work could begin on the 4-lane expansion next summer. The 4-lane expansion is the state’s preferred alternative for the project, but several options are being considered. The DOT has more information about the project on its website.

Replica B17 Bomber A Labor Of Love And Frustration
For a Dixon, Illinois man building a replica of a B-17 bomber was a labor of love, with equal parts of patience and frustration. Jack Bally designed and built the one-third scale of Balley’s Bomber B-17G. It took 17 years and more than 40,000 hours. He funded it himself. Jack says the most challenging part was getting the landing gear right. The frustration came in when he tried to get it certified by the Federal Aviation Administration and was referred to a special inspector for the job. You can see Balley’s Bomber at EAA AirVenture.
