FDL Man Convicted Of Attempted Homicide

A 32-year-old Fond du Lac man will be sentenced in October for shooting another man in the stomach after a confrontation at a Fond du Lac tavern. Antino Jones entered an Alford plea to an attempted-first degree intentional homicide charge Monday. The plea is not an admission of guilt, but acknowledges there may be enough evidence in a trial to find him guilty. According to the criminal complaint Jones got into an argument with another man at the tavern at the corner of Western Avenue and South Military Road after Jones walked in to the bar with a gun and the man told him he shouldn’t be there with a weapon. Later there was a confrontation down the street near the County Jail and Jones shot at the man three times hitting him once in the abdomen. Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney says it was serious because the victim nearly died and it happened in a well-traveled area of the City. The victims girlfriend drove him to St. Agnes Hospital where surgery was performed to save his life. Jones faces up to 45 years in prison and 20 years of extended supervision. A pre-sentence investigation was ordered. The sentencing hearing is scheduled for October 29th.
