An arrest warrant is issued after a Menasha man charged in connection with an armed robbery in Ripon failed to appear in court last week. Eighteen year old Tristan Van Eperen is charged with party to the crime of armed robbery and receiving stolen property. According to the criminal complaint on July 22 Van Eperen and another man robbed a Ripon man at gunpoint using a stolen CO2 pistol. Police say the robbery was drug-related.

Two people are found dead in Fond du Lac County following unrelated circumstances. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office says a preliminary investigation shows a 34 year old man found dead in a parked car over the weekend probably died from a drug overdose. Police were called Saturday morning for a report of an unresponsive male in a car parked near a motel on South Pioneer Road. In the other incident, the Sheriff’s Office is investigating an apparent suicide. Sheriff’s captain Ryan Waldschmidt says a 34 year old Fond du Lac man was found dead Sunday night in the Eldorado Marsh, west of Fond du Lac. Waldschmidt says the man died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A new study shows Wisconsin remains one of the top states for deer collisions. State Farm’s 2017 deer-collision study shows Wisconsin drivers have a 1-in-72 chance of hitting a deer, elk or moose. The data is based on insurance claims. Drivers in West Virginia are at the greatest risk with a 1-in-43 chance of hitting a deer with their cars. Wisconsin is fifth on the list behind West Virginia, Montana, Pennsylvania and Iowa. Wisconsin was sixth on the list last year, but swapped places with South Dakota in this year’s study.

An unusual October tornado downed power lines and destroyed garages on Madison’s east side, but no injuries are reported. The National Weather Service confirms a weak tornado swept northeast along East Washington Avenue to Interstate 39/90 Saturday evening. The weather service says a preliminary damage assessment indicates it was an EF-zero tornado with winds of 70-80 mph. The tornado was on the ground for about 10 minutes. Wind shear and instability caused many showers to rotate, resulting in the tornado. The storm damaged the roof of a car wash and ripped the facade from a convenience store. Steve Peters says high winds toppled a walnut tree that destroyed his back porch and detached garage. Peters says the damage “looked like a bomb went off.”

President Donald Trump approves federal disaster assistance for areas of Wisconsin affected by severe storms, straight-line winds, flooding, landslides, and mudslides in late July. Trump signed the declaration on Saturday, allowing emergency funding to repair damage in Buffalo, Crawford, Grant, Iowa, Jackson, La Crosse, Lafayette, Monroe, Richland, Trempealeau, and Vernon counties. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker declared a state of emergency at the time for 17 counties. Torrential rains led to widespread damage to homes and infrastructure. The state estimated that flood damage to public roads, bridges, dams and other structures in southern Wisconsin was more than $15 million.
