An aviation tradition is underway in Oshkosh. E-A-A’s AirVenture is in its 65th year in Oshkosh, and spokesman Dick Knapinski says there’s plenty to see through Sunday, including numerous air shows, the Blue Angels and more than 300 warbirds – including two B-29 Bombers. Eight of the 15 living Apollo astronauts will also being doing a reunion next weekend on July 28th. Knapinski says it’s been about a half century since that program started and the astronauts will discuss their experiences and what they think space will be like in the future. Employees of a school district in southern Wisconsin will no longer be allowed to use their personal social media accounts to engage students. The Portage Community School District will now require staff members to create a separate social media account that’s open to the general public in order to communicate with students. The policy prohibits staff from friending or directly communicating with students and from identifying students in photos or video on personal accounts. School board member Connie Shlimovitz was the lone vote against the measure. She says she worries it’s a step backward at a time when social media is extremely popular. School board member Chad Edwards says the district hopes to avoid incidents where staff members are disciplined for posts on their social media.

Eau Claire police say an officer has fatally shot a 59-year-old man after he fired a shotgun at authorities. Police chief Jerry Staniszewski said Sunday that the department received a request the night before to check the welfare of the man, who made “homicidal and suicidal” comments to an acquaintance. Staniszewski says officers found the man standing outside with a handgun when they arrived at his residence. Staniszewski says the man retreated into the residence and refused to cooperate during crisis negotiation, threatening to shoot officers on scene. The police chief says the man at one point fired a shotgun through a window at authorities. Staniszewski says a sergeant who has served with Eau Claire police for eight years then shot the man. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
