The victims of a fatal head on collision on Highway 151 in Fond du Lac County over the weekend have been identified. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office says 27 year old Samantha Feucht of St. Cloud was killed when her car collided with a car driven by 18 year old Olivia Shafer of rural Waupun. Shafer received minor injuries. The Sheriff’s Office says a preliminary investigation shows that Feucht was speeding north in the southbound lanes of 151 when she struck a southbound vehicle driven by Shafer near Hazel Lane, in the town of Oakfield, Feucht was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The Sheriff’s Office says speed and alcohol were factors in the crash. The crash remains under investigation by the Fond du Lac Sheriff’s Office.

Multiple people are injured after a home exploded in Marquette County. Marquette County Sheriff Kim Gaffney says the incident occurred Sunday morning at a home on White Lake Court, near 19th Street, in Montello. Gaffney says deputies found the residents outside with injuries that weren’t life threatening, and they were taken to a hospital for treatment. Gaffney says the home appears to be “severely damaged.” He says officials are investigating the incident.

A study suggests that changes to your speech may indicate you’re developing thinking problems. More pauses, filler words and other verbal changes might be an early sign of mental decline, which can lead to Alzheimer’s disease. Researchers had people describe a picture they were shown in taped sessions two years apart. Those with early-stage mild cognitive impairment slid much faster on certain verbal skills than those who didn’t develop thinking problems. It’s more than the occasional “um” or trouble recalling names that plagues many people as they age. If confirmed, the work at the University of Wisconsin in Madison suggests that speech analysis might be a way to help screen people for very early signs of mental decline. Results were discussed Monday at an Alzheimer’s conference in London.

The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department says emergency management officials are continuing to respond to the effects of last week’s flooding. The department says the American Red Cross has opened a shelter at the Salem Grade School. The Red Cross is offering resources including counselors. The county health department has clean up and home well test kits available. Some roadways remain closed. The sheriff’s department says it has responded to more than 1,200 calls for service between July 10 and noon on Sunday.

Competitors are expected to gather in northern Wisconsin for the annual Lumberjack World Championships this week. The gathering in Hayward will showcase more than 20 events for world records in areas such as logrolling, chopping and pole climb. Over 100 competitors are set to vie for more than $50,000 in prize money. The event starts Thursday and runs through Saturday.
