One person is dead following an officer-involved shooting at a bar. Officials said the shooting happened Saturday night at bar called Jack’s Apple Pub on College Avenue, just east of Richmond Street. Appleton Police answered a call about shots being fired inside the bar overnight around 1 o’clock on Sunday morning. When officers arrived, people were leaving the building. An officer going in through a door on S. State Street encountered a person with a gun and shot them. Police on the scene told us officers exchanged gunfire with the shooter. Police went into the bar and began rendering aid. The person they say was the shooter died at the hospital. Two others taken to the hospital will recover from their injuries, police say. No officers were injured. Appleton police are still investigating the shooting and they’ve contacted Green Bay Police to handle the investigation of the officer- involved shooting, which is standard procedure under an agreement between the cities’ police departments.

A person has died following a one vehicle crash on Holland Road north of County Highway JJ in the Town of Vandenbroek. The Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office said it happened early Saturday morning close to 3 a.m. Officials say the driver was going northbound on Holland Road, lost control, and entered a west ditch, then crashed into a tree. The driver was the only person in the car and died at the scene. The name or age has not been released. The crash is still under investigation.

An iconic, toy-filled deli is for sale in Madison after being in business for more than four decades. The real estate agent for Ella’s Deli and Ice Cream Parlor tells the Wisconsin State Journal the owners hope the deli continues to operate as it has for 41 years. The listing price for the 5,500-square-foot facility is $1.4 million and includes a three-unit rental property next door. Oakbrook Corp. is handling the listing. Katie West with Oakbrook says the listing is generating buzz. A famous carousel in front of the deli was built in 1927. It needs annual upkeep in order to keep running. Inside, the deli has whimsical, often antique toys, including superheroes, jugglers and acrobats.

Powerful and versatile draft horses are being used in Wisconsin to help a cellphone company upgrade its towers among other jobs in the fields and forests. Milwaukee Public Radio reports that draft horses can get in and out of spaces some vehicles can’t because the animals are agile and lightweight. Farmer Jason Julian uses horses in his winter logging business, Legacy Horse Logging, because of the animals’ ability to traverse roads that are snow-covered, muddy or flooded. Logistics company CH Coakley hired Julian earlier this year to deliver boxes of gear to cellphone towers for a large U.S. Cellular service upgrade in northern and central Wisconsin. ATVs and trucks couldn’t get to some of the towers because the primitive access roads were covered snow or muck.
