The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal two vehicle crash. The driver of a car was killed when it was struck by semi with box trailer. The crash happened Wednesday morning on Highway 67 at the intersection with Town Road MM. A preliminary investigation shows that a car was westbound on MM when it entered the intersection with Highway 67 and was struck by the semi. The driver of the Pontiac was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. The semi burst into flames shortly after impact and then went off of the east side of the roadway and struck several trees before coming to rest. The truck driver sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Aurora Hospital in Summit. The male driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Fond du Lac man accused of holding a gun to his head in the Walmart parking lot has been charged. Fifty seven year old Eric Golemgeski made his initial Fond du Lac court appearance this week on charges of recklessly endangering safety, mistreatment of animals, possession of a firearm while intoxicated and disorderly conduct. Bail was set at $3500 cash. On May 11th police were called to a report of a man armed with a gun sitting in his car. Walmart and surrounding businesses were placed in a lock down and police set up a perimeter. He was eventually taken into custody without further incident. According to a criminal complaint Golemgeski earlier shot and killed a seagull in the parking lot.

Wisconsin’s attorney general is asking a federal appeals court to reinstate a law that allows the state to detain pregnant women suspected of drug abuse. Attorney General Brad Schimel says he is appealing U.S. District Judge James Peterson’s Wednesday decision not to stay his previous ruling striking down the state’s so-called “Cocaine Mom” law. Schimel says the law provides critical services to pregnant women, protects unborn children and helps combat the state’s heroin epidemic. Opponents say it increases the stigma of drug addiction, undermines patients’ rights to make their own decisions and is overly punitive. The case involves Tammy Loertscher, who was jailed for nearly 20 days in 2014 while pregnant after refusing drug treatment. She had told her doctor she stopped using drugs.

The National Weather Service says its preliminary damage rating for a tornado that destroyed a trailer park and killed a man in northwestern Wisconsin is a strong EF2. The enhanced F-scale runs from EF0 to EF5. An EF2 or higher is considered a significant tornado. The weather service says the twister packed winds of 120 to 130 mph, or even slightly stronger, when it hit the park near Chetek on Tuesday evening. The length of its path is still being determined. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker toured the destruction Wednesday afternoon. The weather service says it received reports of more than two dozen tornado sightings Tuesday night across five states: Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska and Wisconsin.

Two Republican lawmakers want to make rioting in Wisconsin a felony — and define exactly what “rioting” is. Rep. John Spiros and Sen. Van Wanggaard circulated three bills Wednesday that would legally define rioting and make it a felony. The proposals would also make it a misdemeanor to block roads and a felony to carry a dangerous weapon while rioting. Rioting would be defined as an assembly of three or more people that presents a clear danger of injury or property damage. Spiros says he has been “deeply affected” by reports of chaotic riots nationally and in Wisconsin and wants to give law enforcement officers more tools to maintain order. Violence and protests erupted in Milwaukee last summer after a police officer fatally shot a man following a traffic stop.
