Police stepped up presence at the Waupun Area Junior Senior High School Tuesday after a student made threats on social media. The School District sent a message to parents that all schools in the district were placed on administrative hold, which means school is in session but movement of students and staff is limited. Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt says detectives talked with the student who is in the custody of his parents. Schmidt says investigators determined the threat was not credible.

Oshkosh Corp. secures $258 million in orders to rebuild trucks and manufacture trailers for the Army. Oshkosh will rebuild 670 heavy tactical vehicles. The Army says it saves about 25 percent when a truck is rebuilt rather than completely replaced. It refurbishes trucks with bullet holes, bent frames and mangled wheels to become like-new vehicles. Oshkosh will also produce 356 vehicle trailers in the latest round of Army orders. The military contracts support several thousand jobs at Oshkosh, one of the Fox Valley’s largest manufacturers.

A study by a University of Wisconsin-Madison economics professor finds that a tax credit critics argue is too expensive is helping grow manufacturing jobs in the state. The study of the Manufacturing and Agriculture Tax Credit released Wednesday was done by professor Noah Williams. He also served as an adviser to Gov. Scott Walker’s presidential campaign. Walker is a backer of the tax credit and signed it into law in 2011. Williams’ study concludes that since 2013 manufacturing employment has grown nearly 2 percentage points faster in Wisconsin compared with counties just across the state border. Democrats and other critics have said the tax credit puts unneeded pressure on other cash-strapped parts of the budget, including education, health care and roads. The tax credit is projected to cost more than $1.4 billion by mid-2019, far higher than originally expected.

President Donald Trump is promising to find a solution to a trade dispute with Canada that has left dairy farmers in Wisconsin and New York without a market for their product. Trump said during a speech Tuesday in Kenosha, Wisconsin, that Canada has been “very unfair” to dairy farmers and “we’re going to start working on that.” Canada has decided to impose import taxes on ultra-filtered milk, a protein liquid concentrate used to make cheese. It had been duty-free but Canada changed course after milk producers there complained. About 70 dairy producers in both Wisconsin and New York are affected. Trump promises to work with Wisconsin’s congressional delegation to get a solution. The governors of Wisconsin and New York sent Trump a letter Tuesday urging him to take action.
