Two convicted high risk sex offenders will soon be living at a rural home in Lomira on supervised release. On Tuesday, Dodge County Circuit Court Judges Brian Pfitzinger and Joseph Sciascia approved placing sex offenders Jonathan Miller and Robert Larson Jr. at W462 Highway 67 in the Village of Lomira. The two men have been awaiting their release at the Sand Ridge Secure Treatment Center in Mauston until appropriate housing could be found. Earlier this year, Miller and Larson were ordered to be placed at a residence in the Town of Lowell, but the State Department of Health Services stated that after attempting to purchase the home, the vendor was unable to purchase it as it was no longer on the housing market. Miller and Larson were placed in a Town of Leroy residence last year and subsequently removed by the court after it was learned the residence was next door to a home where children lived. Miller and Larson will be placed in the Lomira residence on or before July 1st.

A Wisconsin appeals court overturns the loitering conviction of a man who was walking near a school with a semi-automatic AR-15 rifle on his shoulder. The 3rd District Court of Appeals ruling issued Tuesday is a victory for proponents of allowing people to openly carry firearms. Mark Hoffman was convicted in circuit court of loitering in 2013 when he was walking around the Village of Somerset with a loaded rifle and handgun in a holster. The appeals court on Tuesday said the St. Croix County Circuit Court should have dismissed the case because the evidence suggested the only reason Hoffman was stopped was because of the guns. The appeals court says while it may be alarming, openly carrying firearms without evidence of criminal or malicious intent is legal.

Rewards totaling $35,000 are being offered for information in the shooting of a 9-year-old Milwaukee girl who was struck by a bullet fired from outside her home earlier this month. Milwaukee police say Za’layia (zah-LAY’-ah) Jenkins was pronounced brain-dead on Monday, just one day before her 10th birthday. The FBI on Tuesday offered $10,000, while Milwaukee attorney Michael Hupy offered $25,000 for information leading to the shooter or shooters. Police say Za’layia was shot May 5 as she watched TV while two groups armed with rifles and pistols engaged in a shootout outside. Police Capt. Aaron Raap says investigators still don’t know whether the shooting was random. He says they haven’t ruled out that the home was targeted.
