State officials are warning about phony email ads looking to hire mystery shoppers. State consumer protection administrator Frank Frassetto says it’s a job people know about, but may not understand. Frassetto says the concept of a mystery shopper is to assess a business anonymously and report back to the company that hired them. He says that there are legitimate companies that run these services and that they aren’t going to try to hire you out of the blue over email. The scammers will also run a check fraud scam to pay you with a phony check or try and get you to cash phony gift certificate. If you do get an email like this, simply delete it.

Democrat Russ Feingold is highlighting his travels across Wisconsin in his first ad of the U.S. Senate race pitting him against Republican incumbent Ron Johnson. Feingold doesn’t mention Johnson in the 60-second ad that began airing Monday. Instead, Feingold touts his traveling to all 72 Wisconsin counties and meeting with voters as he campaigns against Johnson. The ad comes after the conservative group Americans for Prosperity spent $1.1 million on a statewide ad buy for Johnson last week. Johnson has not yet run any ads of his own. Johnson spokesman Brian Reisinger says in response that the senator has been continuously traveling all 72 of Wisconsin’s counties “listening to voters who want a senator who understands what it takes to create manufacturing jobs and keep our country safe.”
