Just a day after the primary election in Wisconsin, Ripon is getting some exciting news concerning the National Republican History Museum. Non-Profit Foundation President for the National Republican History Museum, Daniel Zimmerman, says a large piece of Republican history will move from Washington D.C to Ripon, and eventually the museum. Zimmerman says the museum is scheduled to begin construction in the spring of 2017 and will be completely financed by private donations. He says the museum will be similar in looks and feel to that of a Presidential Museum or library. The concept of the museum is to showcase the grassroots political movement that shaped this nation and promote an understanding of Republicanism, its namesake political party, and its impact on the American experience. Zimmerman says the museum will preserve and provide access to historical materials, support research, and house interactive programs and exhibits. For more information please log onto gophistory.us.

The group that runs a state-owned shooting range in northern Wisconsin is not happy with the Department of Natural Resources’ new rule proposals. The DNR has proposed rules for the nine ranges it owns around the state. The plan calls for banning liquor possession and consumption, automatic weapons, tracer ammunition and exploding targets. The DNR’s board is set to vote on the package April 13. The Boulder Junction Shooting Range, which manages the DNR range in that town, submitted comments to the board Monday calling the rules unnecessary. The group says prohibiting booze would drive members away and reduce revenue. The group also argues people should be allowed to use tracers and automatic weapons. The DNR has not commented
