One person is seriously injured following a one vehicle accident in Fond du Lac County. The accident happened Saturday evening around 7:30 p.m at County Highway W and Kiel Road in the Town of Calumet. Investigation shows the driver and lone occupant, 25-year-old Asael Gomez-Damaso of Johnsburg, was traveling south on County Highway W when he lost control of the vehicle, striking a mailbox. The vehicle then entered the west ditch and over turned. Gomez-Damaso was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was flown to Theda Medical Center in Neenah with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash.

The Green Bay Packers have paid nearly $1.5 million this year for six Ashwaubenon properties as part of their development project. The team has been buying land to build town houses for its Titletown District development. The Packers say they plan to build up to 70 town houses, and that the development includes commercial, retail, residential and recreational properties. The team says acquiring the additional six properties was prompted by an interest in living in the district. Titletown District is a 35-acre development anchored by Lodge Kohler hotel, Hinterland Brewery and Bellin Health Sports Medicine and Orthopedics clinic, all of which should open by the beginning of the 2017 NFL season. The center 10 acres will be a park and plaza including a tubing hill, skating pond and trail, playgrounds and other amenities.

Officials in small Wisconsin towns say construction costs and budget cuts in the state government have caused them to convert their blacktop roads to gravel. State funding for local governments in the form of municipal aid has been cut over the last 10 years as local transportation funding has remained roughly flat. The state has also limited how much towns can raise from local property taxes — restrictions that grew stricter under Republican Gov. Scott Walker. The governor has proposed increasing local transportation aid by 8.5 percent in the next budget. According to the Wisconsin Towns Association, it would translate to about $10,000 for the average town, enough for road maintenance, but not much else.

A Minneapolis liquor store gets a head start on opening for business on Sundays. Surdyk’s (SUR’-dikes), a longtime liquor and cheese store in northeast Minneapolis, opened for business Sunday, despite Minnesota’s new Sunday liquor sales law not taking effect until July. Owner Jim Surdyk says he decided to staff on Sundays as soon as he saw Gov. Mark Dayton sign the bill into law last week. Surdyk says he plans to continue opening on Sundays. But it’s unclear if the state will allow the business to remain open. The state’s Department of Public Safety oversees alcohol enforcement. Until last week, Minnesota was one of just 12 states that still banned liquor stores from opening on Sundays while all of its neighbors legalized Sunday liquor sales.
