  • Community Blood Drive
    All day
    March 2, 2021

The Community Blood Center (CBC) is urging all healthy and eligible community members to make a blood or platelet donation as the blood supply has reached concerning levels due to recent winter weather issues. CBC reports a 25% decline in the blood supply. Blood types O negative and O positive are especially needed at this time.
Every 2 seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood and that need does not slow down during inclement weather. There is no substitute for the blood transfused to a patient. It must come from a volunteer blood donor. CBC is the sole provider of all blood, platelets and plasma to nearly 30 hospitals in Northeast and Northcentral Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
“Blood has a short shelf life and must be replaced constantly,” commented Kristine Belanger, Chief Operations Officer and Vice President of Operations, The Community Blood Center. “It’s essential to life, and it’s critical for us to ensure we can recover from the challenges of the winter weather and replenish the blood supply.”
Type O negative blood is the universal donor and can be safely transfused to any patient, with any blood type. This is the blood type used during traumas and emergencies when there isn’t time to determine a patient’s blood type. Type O positive is the most common blood type, accounting for 39% of the population.
Healthy and eligible individuals, including first-time donors, are encouraged to schedule an appointment at communityblood.org or by calling (800) 280-4102. CBC has donor centers in Appleton, Oshkosh, Little Chute and Woodruff and donation opportunities at various drives throughout Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan
Safety is a top priority at CBC. The following safety practices are in place:
    • Appointments required: to ensure social distancing and manage the number of people gathered at one time
    • Limited staffing: only those necessary to the blood collection process are allowed to work onsite
    • Masks: are worn by all staff members and encouraged and provided for all donors
    • Temperature pre-screening: to ensure health of donors immediately upon entry and staff before they work onsite
    • Physical barriers: to add an extra layer of protection
    • Enhanced registration: to protect your personal space and minimize exposure
    • Snacks: all donor snacks are individually wrapped
    • Hand wash and cough etiquette: is practiced by all staff members
    • Additional sanitizing: in addition to the already rigorous cleaning process

  • Community Blood Drive
    All day
    March 10, 2021

    Dear Waushara County Chamber Members,

Hello, my name is Mrs. Julie Petersen. I am writing to inform you that third graders at Redgranite Elementary School will be kicking off the 11th Annual Pajama Drive on March 15th. We will be collecting pajamas through the 26th of March and all donations will be given to the Community Christmas Project right here in Wautoma.

How to participate in the Pajama Drive:

    1. Place posters at your place of business to help us spread the word. If you need posters, please contact Mrs. Petersen
    2. Purchase brand new sets of pajamas and contact Mrs. Petersen so that she can pick up all donations from your business
    3. Make a monetary donation to the cause

Inspiration for the 11th Annual Parkside

    Pajama Drive:

A few years ago, I read an article about a New York woman named Genevieve Piturro. The article said that she noticed children in shelters sleeping in their clothes because they didn’t have a pair of pajamas. And she started filling a shopping bag with new sleepwear and began to hand  them out to the youngsters, many of whom were abused, abandoned, or neglected. She has now started a non-profit organization called the Pajama Program. Since the Pajama Program started  more than one million new pajamas have been collected across the country. This program serves  children in need. Most of these children have never enjoyed the simple comfort of warm, clean pajamas.

After reading her story, I decided to organize a Wautoma Area School District Pajama Drive. All donations will help families in need in the Wautoma area. I am pleased to announce  that this year we will be kicking off the 11th annual Pajama Drive. Thank you in advance for your support!

Both Inthewoods Sugar Bush and Maple Sweet Dairy will be open to the public from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. for guests to witness maple syrup production first-hand. Visitors will be able to see the sugar maple trees, modern sap collection tools, and the equipment used to process sap into sweet maple syrup.

Visiting all three sites throughout the Maple Syrup Days event will enter participants in a drawing to win a gift basket filled with Wisconsin-made maple syrup products, courtesy of Inthewoods Sugar Bush and Maple Sweet Dairy. Punch cards can be picked up and dropped off at any location.

Adding to the experience will be industry experts: Theresa Baroun, Executive Director, and Kenni Bores, Maple Marketing Intern, from the Wisconsin Maple Syrup Producer’s Association.

Waushara Mobile Pantry Schedule for March

Residents interested in receiving FREE food are limited to visit one pantry site per week. This
food is available for ALL community members. No proof of identification, income, or other
information is required. When attending a drive-thru pantry, drivers remain in their vehicles
and volunteers place boxes of food in their trunk or back seat. Drivers are asked to make
space in their trunks to assist with this process.

Mobile sites have been serving Waushara County since last May. These pantries have been
provided by the Wisconsin’s Hunger Task Force and Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin in
partnership with Waushara County Food Pantry, the Waushara Prevention Council, Inc., and
the Waushara County Department of Human Services. Local agencies have been assisted by
an army of community volunteers along with businesses, community organizations and
municipalities who hosted and continue to host pantry sites.

For more information contact the Waushara Food Pantry at 715-869-3663. In the event of
inclement weather, cancellations will be announced on the Bug Radio 102.3 FM. Mobile
pantry schedules will also be posted on Waushara’s Vision Facebook page
