Friends of the Library Used Book Sale, October 14 – October 16 Ripon, WI – The Friends of the Ripon Public Library will hold its semi-annual used book sale from October 14 – October 16 in the basement of the library at 120 Jefferson Street. Please note that properly worn face coverings are REQUIRED and the number of shoppers allowed in the sale rooms will be limited. No children under the age of 8 allowed except by appointment. Thousands of books have been donated recently and those in the Last Chance Room are priced at 25 and 50 cents as well as 10 cents for children’s books. The Showroom contains many new displays, including antiques and collectibles, vintage adult and children’s books, vintage record albums, and country music. Newly expanded sections include Civil War, WWII, and Vietnam war history, social justice, western and young adult fiction, and Christian and Amish fiction. There is a large selection of audiobooks priced at 50 cents or 3/$1. The collections of recipe books, art books, religious books, and children’s books are very large. Cash and checks will be accepted as well as credit cards for purchases over $10. The mission of the Friends is to promote and support public resources and community programs at the Ripon Public Library, and proceeds from the sale are used to support this mission. In the past year the Friends have assisted with funding the new digital hoopla service, summer and winter reading programs for all ages, the Romper Room, and more. Get a leg up on the competition by attending the Friends of the Library used book Early Bird Sale! The opening evening is always free for Friends of the Library members to attend, and for this sale the $3 entrance fee will be waived due to the pandemic though donations are appreciated. The Early Bird Sale will let you browse and purchase any of the books available. The sale will again be open free of charge on Friday and Saturday. Open to anyone looking for a great deal on gently used books. Come back tomorrow for even more deals! The Friends of the Library semi-annual used book sale continues with a $3 grocery bag sale in the Last Chance Room – the Showroom is excluded from the bag sale. This is your last chance to stock up until the next sale! Because of the large volume of book donations received throughout the year, many of the books which don’t sell will be recycled after the sale and will not be here again. Horror Is Back at Nightmare in Fountain!
The time is nearly ripe for the re-emergence of Nightmare on First Street: Field of
Screams & Haunted Barn in Fountain, called by many “The Best Haunted Event
Ever!” After last year’s Covid hiatus, this scary and spooky non-profit fundraiser is
back and set to chill and thrill patrons for its tenth year.
Funds raised this year will benefit the Fillmore County History Center in Fountain,
MN, the best history center in a town of only 400 people, whose volunteers will be
among those helping to run Nightmare.
Each year Nightmare is different from the past, but this year it is being completely
rebuilt! Routes are changed, walls are moved, and details abound. Hundreds of hours
every year go into the metamorphosis of this scary delight. Attendees can expect
creepy scenes, hand-carved pumpkins, labyrinthine routes, screams and moans,
surprises and scares, live actors, and maybe even an appearance by DEATH.
The theme this year is Haunted Mansion & Estate. You may discover a rabid butler,
murderous nanny, cleaver-wielding cook, ghostly servants, stairway to oblivion,
poisoned feast, overly-welcoming coffin, torturous dungeon, and so much more!!
Expanding to nine nights this year, Nightmare is created and hosted by Paul & Regan
Little of Fountain. Numerous others help with the presentation of the event.
Depending on how quickly you navigate through and affect your escape, expect
Nightmare to devour 20-45 minutes of your life for a scary entertainment experience
(plus queue time before entering).
of October, specifically October 15th, 16th, & 17th; 22nd, 23rd, & 24th; and 29th,
30th, & 31st; from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. each night. While some prefer their haunt
with less scare, we can’t remove the scariness of the site!

(plus queue time before entering).

back and set to chill and thrill patrons for its tenth year.
